Glad we could lend to your nightly entertainment. I trust we Massholes kept the nation quite captive yesterday evening as well. Amazing times.

Now, you actually have a future on TV, that's pretty good! Clearly, opinion is the basis for most of the discussions here, but it's pervasive outside of threads like this one, which unlike this one is not about products no one has ever seen or experienced in all likelihood (since they'd probably be under a NDA).

After reflection, maybe you and Jeremy are correct, I guess some entertainment is better than none.

Here's more information Scott posted in another forum. Interesting is also the information on the schedule.

But the German automedia should be bringing the car in full rendered glory very soon indeed.

What is not seen is the attention to detail regarding aerodynamics. above the brake intake ducts there is a slight lip spoiler which in the design wraps around the intakes. The front wings are a few milimeters wider and are constructed from composite plastic. There is another Weight saving feature showcased before that will be inherited on the GTS variant. But not on this car.

The focus for this car is simply to bring out an exciting small compact M model which will have the dynamics and the cost to embaress cars that cost twice or three times as much. As it stands now it is still undergoing development so what I have seen it do @ BMW's German Test track is not the full picture, but it is fast and looks great. Image is equally important because there is some nostalgia injected especially in the use of color and interior details and materials.

Unfortunately we cannot replicate the overall project as was the E30 M3. This is not possible because of safety requirements and other regulations have made this today nigh on impossible. What we can do is try to replicate the feel and focus the E30 delivered on the road and track, from what I have learned is that the car is not just an faster 135i although the 135i is a very good car to begin with particular attention is being taken especially to the mechanical set-up and the steering.

As of where things are going the "production" car will likely debut towards the end of 2010 with a debut more than likely @ Detroit 2011 because the largest M market is the US , With European sales commencing in the Spring and the US in early Summer 2011. Clearing the decks for the new M5@ Geneva.

Best regards,
south

I've been waiting a long time for an M car like this, I'm so excited by the possibilities of this car - and the possibility of another Euro Delivery - I just hope it will not be disappointing.

Another point when discussing torque is to know what type of transmission it will have. If it's based on the current 135i 6sp, then it cannot handle more than 322 ft-lbs I believe. The DCT can go up to 369 if not mistaken (same as the overboost feature in the 335is).

Or they could base it off some other manual tranny - for example on the E39/E60 6sp, which is rated higher.

(Mine would have to be a 6sp manual).

At some point, the cigar and conversation at the pub, is more important than how you drove there... even if you aren't listening to what people are saying, because you're still grinning.. eh?

Oh so this M1 isn't going to be a 2011 car being released in the coming 6-8 months, but rather a 2012 car being released in summer of 2011.
Well hell thats a bummer and why wait that long? It would be based on the 3-4 year old (in the U.S.) but a couple years older than that 1 series platform at that point??
I guess they don't have plans for a new 1 series chassis coming to the U.S. then until at least 2015, as doubtful they'd make this model M1 have a run of anything less than 3 years.

First of all, you clearly forgot about the E30 M3. It is the most garish of them all.

And second, I think you are also faithfully describing the new M1.

This will be the last hurrah for the E82, it is that simple.

I'm glad SCOTT26 has reiterated this. So many people just can't seem to understand it no matter how it is explained.

This looks like it will be quite a car! The price point will be the most interesting thing for me. (can I afford it!)

I think that the 135 looks better in person. The M1 will be my next car for sure.
I've already started saving.

Not that I don't love my E82, but I guess I was hoping for a redesign of the body, mostly just to make it less disproportionally top heavy (in shape and weight), which i feel is the E82's main fault, IMO the M1 just looks lke a 135 with a slightly different bumper

really wish they could have taken design cues from the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept

Carbon fiber roof removes some weight from the top. If they move the suspension and wheels out wider that will also help with the balance.

I put this image in another thread, but look at what a M1 (e82) could look like.

I like this render...

P.S. I'm going with either Inca Orange or Matte White.

I could be wrong, but i think this rendering has been out a while?

Regardless, I think it is going to look great.....
