just thought I would update the thread, after following this thread I went ahead and have upgraded to BMW Performance rotors all around, Motul fluid, and Ferodo 2500 pads and had brake fade in the first 15 minutes of my first session, I had to end it early.

I could only do 1/2 the normal session all day, I'm definitely upgrading to harder pads...

Wow that is unfortunate. Did you push the car 100%? I've tracked my car 2 times so far with stock brakes/fluid/rotors and neither time did I have to get off the track.

i don't think i pushed it 100%, maybe 80%. I definitely have been trying to brake later and later at the end of the front straight so thats probably why.

The ferodos are definitely a street pad with a slight bit more endurance than stock but not enough to withstand anything more than maybe someones first track day.

Are you going to go with the hawk's then? I've heard they have great bite at the track when warmed up but they will be noisy on the street.

In my experiences the hawk HP+ are shit, on the street they don't work when cold, and on the track they have terrible modulation and cannot stand up to a full session once you get the hang of driving.

The DS2500 I haven't tried yet, but the Carbotech XP10's work well double duty, but they make a shit ton of dust and can be noisy sometimes (and eat the rotors a bit)

Also our stock pads (09/10 + for me) are garbage, I can do only 3 laps before they start fading.

Ferodo DS2500 fills all the pitfalls of the HP+ with excellent cold bite and consistent brake torque until its MOT(maximum operating temperature). And does it with minimum to no noise(when properly burnished) and does not wear rotors are prematurely.

The Ferodo DS3000's are a good option if they DS2500's aren't enough pad for you. I don't know if they make them in the proper size or if any vendors sell them though. Do you stock them HPA or know if they make the 3000's for our application? IMO, the 2500's are the best all around pad you can have.

Gofast, you can get DS3000 for our 135's. I'm sure Harold can order them for us

There's a brake pad reference chart floating around the web that indicates DS3000 is a paint killer and extreme cold rotor eater. I have no idea if that's true, but until I hear more, I personally would avoid them on a dual use car.

That really is a mystery...I took my stock configuration to Hockenheim and suffered brake fade after 15~20 minutes of hard driving...changed to ferodos, changed fluids to dot 5.1 and installed ss lines.

Then went all out at the Nurburgring and had zero issues...but that
was only three laps with some unintended cool down after each lap.

What do you attribute the fade to?

Ferodo do not make the DS3000 compound for the 135i. The Hawk DTC series pads are a good alternative if you are looking for track/race only pads. DTC series are stocking items.

Since my rear brakes are not overheating, I would like to find a pad that resists fade better than a street/track pad that can be used in front with DS2500 or Cool Carbon ST in back. Someone suggested Hawk DTC-30, but I'm guessing its friction is too high. EBC Yellow was also suggested, but according to Mr5's review, it resists fade even less than Cool Carbons.

I am riding on mine and still very pleased. it performed on the track and drives pretty quite. they are a little dustier than cool carbons. I say go for it!

There are only a few choices for street/track pads. In order of dust/noise they are

Cool Carbon S/T (very little dust)
DS2500
EBC Yellowstuff
Hawk HP+
Hawk DTC30 (mountains of dust)

There's no way I'd use either of the Hawks for daily driving. None of the others is a true track pad. They will not grab hard like race pads. They will fade if pushed. I have no opinion about one being better than the others.

In my opinion and experience, the Ferodos's are the best double duty pad. I have seen EBC Yellow's eat rotors like it's their job for street/track driven cars, the Hawk HP+ were horribly loud, offered poor brake release characteristics and ruined the wheels on my old car (but they stopped like hell when hot) and the Cool Carbon's seem mediocre from what I have seen. If the pads are double duty then the best thing you can do is the Ferodos. I wouldn't think twice about it...

EBC yellows do in fact eat rotors - my stockers are done after two years running with yellows and autocrossing about once a month - great bite though, but a bit of overall fade now that everything is worn a good bit.

I am getting ready to throw a set of perf rotors on and I think I am leaning towards the DS2500s right now. They are good a Autocross pad?

I will have SS lines and March it's time to flush brake fluid so I will upgrade that as well - recommendations? (anything but stock right.....)

castrol srf or motul rbf 600 - 660. also get some titanium shims. you could also modify the back shield to allow more air to the rotors

Thanks, where would I source the shims?

Alos have to double check but don't believe I can modify the backshield and stay legal in STU.
