How to Reinstall the stock intercooler - Special tool?
EDIT: Based on the responses below, does anyone know the diameter of that hose/clamp system?
I am about to uninstall my Active intercooler, and reinstall the stocker. Has anyone done this before? My main question involves the "one time" hose/clamp that you must cut when installing an aftermarket intercooler. This piece: Can this hose/clamp piece be purchased at BMW? How is in installed? I assume a special tool? JB Last edited by geared; 04-05-2014 at 10:08 AM.. |

I don't know if your car is different, but the hose clamps on mine are pretty standard home depot level stuff IMO.

You could probably use a crimp style CV axle clamp. But that also requires the tool to crimp it tight.

Geared- I read a post a couple years ago that suggests that BMW does not sell this ear clamp without the whole pipe coming from the turbo (at least not for the N54). You could probably find a similar ear clamp at NAPA (or on ebay) for a few bucks each. Just get a rough estimate of the OD of the rubber accordion hose where the clamp was removed and the width of the groove. Pliers used to crimp the ear clamps run about $25.

The ETK does not have a part number for the clamp alone so as the others have said I doubt you would be able to find it without the whole pipe unfortunately...

Bavarian Autosport has German hose clamps for $0.50 to 3.00 depending on the size. The are not the crimp style but most clamps on the 1 aren't either. They do say "made in germany" if that makes you feel better!
If your trading to a dealer I would not really worry about the clamp not being OEM. Trust me they do not look that closely.
