Placed and order yesterday!
I placed an order for a 135i coupe yesterday I'm guessing I won't even get a production number until Tuesday or later because it's a weekend, right? What's a reasonable time to expect the car to arrive? I already sold my car and will be renting in the mean time, so I need to figure out how long to rent for.

Hmm.. the office is closed today (sunday), but I'll try giving them a call tomorrow. They made it seem like it will take them a few days to put the order in.

I called - they still won't put the order in until tomorrow :\ Anyway, when do you guys think I can expect the car to be ready? I was quoted 6-8 weeks but I'm hoping it's a little quicker?

I ordered mine 8/31 and the Owners Circle (OC) still shows it as "On Order". I was told a month and a half, but with a week already gone and not in production yet, I would guess that 6 weeks was the earliest to hope for.

I put in my order yesterday as well. This is going to be a long 6-9 weeks. Us Americans are spoiled, I've never had to wait to purchase a vehicle. I always just figured out what dealer had what I wanted, negotiated the deal and went to the dealer to pick it up.
I guess on a positive note...it will give me time to sell my truck private party and put some extra $ in my pocket. |

I ordered on 08/11, and tracking STILL shows 'on order'! Now, the factory was closed the 2 wks subsequent to my order, but in a few days it will be a month, and I would think it had better start showing 'In Production' soon, or somebody has some splainin' to do!

boostm3 & Robert135iDCT - I ordered 9/5, so I haven't been waiting as long as you guys - but mine still shows 'on order' as well. It's also showing a black manual 128i when I ordered a white 135i :\ My sale of my previous car ('07 VW GTI) just fell through, so I don't mind the extra time to try to sell my GTI now
rkdiddy - The dealer couldn't find me a single 2011 135i in the entire US that had a MSRP under $40k (when the base car has an MSRP of $36k?). Without a custom order I would have been stuck with tons of options I didn't really want. |

I ordered February, Production finished March 13 (2011s only started production in March), and I took delivery on May 20th. That being said, the car had already reached the west coast on April 18th, and the extra month was the car coming to Hawaii (which arrived on the 18th of May, 2 days for prep and registration.)
Since you're on the east coast, I think 4-5 weeks after production is completed would be accurate, so 6-8 weeks is about right depending on where they fit you in the production schedule.

Wow, I didn't even know they shipped to Hawaii but I guess it makes sense Too bad the ship can't come direct to you guys (instead of going through california).

Did you call the 1800#? It's MUCH more up to date than the website will ever be. I was driving my car around when the website still had it in transit.

Unfortunately it does take 6-8 weeks. Building takes 1 day the rest is transport and clearing customs.

Your dealer didn't look too hard. There are plenty of 135 under 40K. However, the extra shipping charges would be quite high. CA can provide up to date info. Owners circle is quite a joke. I used it first in 03 then 07 and now in 2010. It's still funky. It actually takes about a week to build your car. From Leipzig, it's shipped to Bremerhaven. It then usually goes to Belgium and Southhampton before crossing the Atlantic. To New York from Southhampton is about 15 days. Clearing customs and the VDC doesn't take too long. If you custom ordered the VDC gives you a priority.

I think they do a batch by country and the US cars are a week or two into production, at least that's what happened last year. They also group production by exterior color. Last year they did white cars first. You should have a production date within a few days and the car will be built within 2 weeks. The most frustrating part is having it waiting for transport. They take them all by train and they then get put into the biggest parking lots I've ever seen until the boat pulls up. The boat takes about 6 days to get to NYC IIRC. The NY guys will be the first to get their cars.
Here's a link to the sat image of the port. Zoom in a bit more to see just how expansive the lots really are.

Yes, I'm fully aware. I was only telling him to use the 1800# instead of the website to track the car as it's more accurate. Nothing will speed up the process of getting the car built and shipped. This year is a bit delayed though... My 1er was the first 2010 delivered in the US and I had it on Sept 30th last year.

Here's the same thread from last year. Took 9 days from loading to get to the processing center in NJ. Pretty weird that this year is more delayed than last. I think my car was being built during the last week of August. If you guys call the dealer they know the exact schedule of the factory shut-downs and when they resume production. There's quite a bit of good info in that thread I linked so please check it out. I know I was chomping at the bit for any info I could get my hands on and last year we were able to track things with amazing precision. Enjoi!
