two different interior stylings

why are this two interior photos different?

is this because one is 128? and another is 135i ?

or because of premium pakage choice ...
or because hi-def radio or satellite radio options ...
or nav option...

look at those climate control knobs...

It would appear that the differences are in the center IP stack - it would appear that the top pic is a 1 with nav and automatic climate control - the bottom with standard HVAC controls and the non-nav stereo interface. Hope that helps.

I wish we were getting cloth inserts - looks sportier, fits the image of the car.

Based on the redline, the bottom car is a diesel. It may be some boggo base spec that we won't even see in the US.

+1 for the cloth seat inserts.

One car has automatic climate control, one has manual climate control. this is done the same way in the E46s. Also, looks like the one with ACC has steering wheel controls.

That said, I'd gladly give up ACC and steering controls for the ability to purchase a 123d.

The cloth inserts look really great up front (particularly the red), unfortunately in the pics that I've seen the back seats are all cloth and it kind of ruins the look IMHO. Anyway, we probably won't be seeing cloth. Too bad.

Its got nothing to do with i-drive. The top photo has Automatic climate control as in my 130 hatch and the 2nd photo has the normal standard Air con... Auto climate control would be standard on high end models like 135....

normally not a cloth fan, but I had a similar interior in my 318ti (black and grey cloth with black leather) and I liked it alot. Does not work in most cars, but I agree that it would fit the image of this car and I'd definitely consider it!

As far as I understood it, the top would be the North American car (read: all auto-climate) and the bottom is the Euro (presumably diesel) variant.

no, the first one is auto air con the 2nd one is manual air con (I drive or not the radio is there : over the auto air con and under the manual one). this has nothing to do with north america or europe
in some countries (like germany), even the 135 will be probably available with manual air con. that doesn't mean you cannot upgrade to an automatic model, and I don't expect to see a lot of manual air cons out there be it on the 135i or on a little diesel

It has a little to do with i-drive seeing the car with i-drive has a DVD player for NAV a CD player and no radio display. where the other one does not have i-drive so there is no DVD slot and there is a display for the radio.

I'm gonna guess that's going to look really good. Although, I would be concerned with how the alcantara would wear.

Alcantara wears better than just about anything. (except maybe 'ette)
I've been this route before

And swapping the upholstery isn't an issue with the side airbags? I've always assumed the seams are stitched in such a way as to break open when the airbag explodes...
