Is anyone having luck selling ?????

IHMO this one is priced right for the options and mileage, perhaps even a little low. The pictures are pretty bad though. If I were selling I would take the time to get some better pics. My suspicion is that there is something that is only apparent in person that is holding this one back.

Yea, the other thing is the guy doesnt want to do an inspection. I told him i would pay for a bmw dealer to do an inspection, and he doesnt want to because he said he didnt want to take the time and hasle of doing so... kinda weird...BUT it is under warranty, so what could be wrong with it anyway?

well honestly you tell him you know the car has been for sale for a while now, explain you are a VERY serious potential buyer but the only way you will purchase is if it clears an inspection with no major flaws/problems.

If he doesn't accept that and refuses to bring it in for an inspection then:

1. There is something wrong with the car or something on it he doesn't want the dealership to know about in which case it's probably not a car you would want to buy anyway.

OR

2. He isn't really serious about selling the car.

The problem is that too many sellers don't realize that they have to pay a *BIG* penalty to be early adopters. Couple that with the state of the economy, and you've got a recipe for a very slow private party sale.

You can pick up a brand new 2010 135i for $500 over invoice, MINUS $1500 holiday cash, MINUS $2500 Euro delivery discount, PLUS super cheap financing rates compared to private party financing. When you work out the numbers, some people with 15k miles 2008s are asking just a couple grand off of what it costs to buy a brand new 2010. Nobody in their right mind would make that trade-off.

great point, but its also the fact that some people personally dont want to deal with the hassle of dealerships and what not. and it kinda depends on if the buyer is serious enough to the point where they 1) have the money in hand and dont have to finance, or 2) have a bank that will finance for a cheap rate. just my .02

This thread is half and half helpful to me. As I really want a 135i, I simply enjoy every aspect I see in the car. No I haven't had the chance to drive one and probably won't unless I buckle down to get the money to actually own one. But it seems After lurking the forum all night since about 1am central, I am half and half about my earlier sure fire decision that this was the car for me.
Yes I may be a young guy, but it still seems to make little sense that people still want high 30's for a 08 with 20+k miles. When I just checked Nada value on an 08 135i M6 with 20k clean retail is 32,825, as clean trade-in is 28,525.

Maybe I'm missing something about how things depreciate when you mod and gain milage and general age of your car.

not surprised. most cars are underwater for the first 2-3 year at least. As soon as you drive it off the lot you lose $$$ in depreciation (even before you make your first payment). Depreciation begins to slow down in years 3-5. Until then most car owners will owe more than the car is worth.

only to carmax and dealerships. any car enthusiast that appreciates tastefully modded cars would understand the time sweat and money spent into getting a car in the shape it is. just my .02

Some car enthusiasts will appreciate it. Others, like myself will see modifications as a huge red flag. Some mods are done tastefully, are mechanically sound, and enhance the overall vehicle. Others are poorly implemented by a teenager with little experience and create a potential disaster down the road.

Interesting thread: couple of thoughts:

1) 90% of the cars here are too expensive. A 2012 M-sport w/20k miles, 6MT, perfect shape, had all options save for tech and nav packages, just sold locally for $33k at a dealer. People here might ask for $34k for the same car, but that is a private party sale, not a dealer; they are not likely to get anywhere close to that price. $30k maybe. So, why should the seller even bother at $34? Why not start at $32 and negotiate down? Myself, for one, won't contact a seller if they are way overpriced to start with.



Another guy I know had a 2011, nearly the same car but with 27k miles, ended up trading it in for $26k because of no buyers. It is a niche car, doesn't appeal to a ton of people, and you need the right person looking for it. Same reason that some BMW dealers get stuck with 335i 6MT's forever. 98% of people looking at that car want an auto. You need the right person to come along at the right time, and grab it. If not, someone will buy it when it bottoms out at wholesale, eventually. Last fall, I test drove a 2011 335i 6MT CPO sedan, too expensive at $38k for a pretty basic car, but it was 6MT. A few months later, I saw the same car, having had it's priced dropped several times, down to $28k. I don't think selling a 135i is that much different.

I've read through all of this, and I can't agree more with most of whats in here... There is a car on this forum for sale RIGHT now, that I want... But he is priced too high to even consider sending an offer... The car books(KBB, NADA)at ~$20k in "Very Good" condition, but he's asking 8k over that for the mods, granted there are some that I want, others that I don't so I COULD sell them, but I'm not going to hassle with it, I'll wait, or buy a C5z06 and be done with it. I already have a 4-door daily so I don't NEED the backseat. Anyways, this car is in the buyers market, not the sellers... Wish everyone luck with their sales though, there is someone out there for all of them, just be realistic with your prices...
