should I switch from Cobb to mhd?

I have a fbo N54 135i and I'm running Cobb stg2+ which runs around 18-20 psi. I'm looking for a little more power but I'm getting conflicting answers. Cobb says their tunes make more torque than their competitors, meanwhile people on the internet call Cobb antiquated because it hasn't been updated in a few years. From what I see iit's running perfectly so why do I need an update on the map.

I apppreciate any input and thanks in advance.

There ya go.

Totally different story if you had nothing installed. But if it's there and working, it's fine. Any amount MHD would be "better" would hardly be noticeable.

Well, really I agree with Tracer, if it's running fine and meets your needs, then just leave it be and be happy it's running well!

That said, I also think you answered your own question-

You asked:
"why do I need an update on the map"

But started the post with:
"I'm looking for a little more power"

If you really want more, then something changes. Up to you what that change is going to be, if anything.

Maybe consider finding a custom tuner to work with your AP and get off the OTS Cobb map. Beware tho that most of the tuners will probably encourage MHD over the AP just because MHD is in active development and hardware costs are significantly decreased since you use your phone.

Agreed with that too. If everything's good, and you have no plans, keep the Cobb. Jumping over to MHD by itself won't change anything significant if at all.

If you have plans to mod, then yeah, maybe. Custom type stuff, swapping turbos and such, or a custom tune to eek out 5-10 more hp, sure.

If it's an intercooler or down pipe then might still keep with Cobb. But you could start debating then.

Probably a good time to say what mods you have, what if any you plan to get, and what you are really looking for.

I'm confused as to why you said "its running perfectly so why do [you] need an update on the map". I though your whole thing was you want to make more power?

You want more power? What numbers with what mods are you making right now? I know that when I swapped over to MHD instead of JB4 w/MHD BEF, did a walnut blast, and new clutch my torque and HP (v10 maps) increased by a lot. (+40hp / +122tq). I think my old clutch wasn't able to put the power down. But either way I was glad to make the swap. (I'm FBO)

I'm running a vargas charge pipe with a tial, vrsfbcatless down pipes, 7" intercooler, inlets and outlets, and dci. Might be missing something but it's just standard full bolt ons.

I asked about the update because people on the forums say that Cobb is outdated and runs horribly but with me it's running perfectly. I have not taken it to a dyno yet.

Well FWIW you are asking the right questions. Seriously nothing wrong with the Cobb tune. But yes you may have hp left to be gained with MHD. But I'm not sure it'll be immediate, it might require assistance (custom tune of some sort). You start to have to decide how much it'll $ cost and if it's "worth it". Software, adapter, tuning work...

Sounds like maybe you're ready to make some changes with the car. Why not look at the new additions and options MHD has baked into their flashing modules and compare that to Cobb.

If youre happy as is, don't fix what's not broken

If you want to add features power or further modify your car, get MHD.

Have fun!
