Ordered new turbos. Preventative measures against WG rattle?
The turbos on my car are blown so I just bought a replacement pair of turbos. They are used but they only have 25,000 km on them (15,500 miles) so they are almost like new.
They will be getting installed in the next couple of weeks. While they are out of the car though, is there anything I can do to safeguard against future waste gate rattle issues? |

Yes. Return the new turbos you ordered and get good non OE turbo(s) along with supporting hardware and a tune. As a bonus you can make more power. Not every turbo setup has the N54's ridiculous wastegate problem.

Any N54 turbo with an internal wastegate, see: ALL twins available on market, will rattle eventually. The only way, I repeat, only way to be cured of it is to go to an externally gated single.
Enjoy your build!

163,000 kms (100,000 miles). For the first couple years of its life the car only had the oil changed in line with BMW's service interval but for the last 7 years or so it has had it changed every 7000 - 10,000 km. |
