Eventuri for N52
For a little while I've been wanting a carbon airbox purely because noise. However, basically everything is pretty pricey and intakes aren't necessarily known for big power gains. I'd been looking at Eventuri products, which everyone raves about but they don't make a kit for N52s.
So I decided to buy the S54 intake anyway, because I thought how hard can it be to get it to work. How hard this is depends on what tools you have available. These are basically the main items I dealt with: 1. MAF housing - The diameter of this section of pipe is different between the two engines. I ended up designing and printing a new section of pipe from nylon that can join the two sections. 2. Mounting - I ran out of time on my first attempt, and so I folded a piece of aluminium as a stand-in just to keep the airbox in place. Later on I folded some aluminium into a heat shield, not unlike the one from the Turner kit. 3. Air scoops - I don't really know how big of a difference air scoops make, but I guessed since the air box was no longer sealed, the engine wasn't pulling all of its air from the cold frontal air and some would come from the engine bay. Presumably these scoops will help with getting more cold air into that open area at speed. You can buy these, but I wasn't keen on spending $200-300 on a pair, so again back to the 3D printer. Outcomes: It sounds a lot better and surprisingly loud. It really barks when you open the throttle at low rpm. It seems a bit more free at the top end, but that's really just butt dyno. I'm still on the standard tune, so I'll need to get a remap at some point. |

That looks good, I was wondering if one of their intakes would work on our cars. I would like to do something similar, but I want to keep the airbox sealed in some way.

I think I found during my digging Simota may have done one that was sealed, but they switched their design a bit.

Just wanted to give you a "f**k yeah!" I love to see ppl still innovativing the n51/n52 platform. If you 3D print the scoops and have reasonable prices you could sell a bunch on here. I'm certainly interested.

Following, might be interested in trying this. The BMWPI leaves a lot to be desired.
Mind sharing the files for the piping and more details on how you made the heat shield? |

I probably could print a few more scoops (or connectors) if people are interested. There is one caveat: the actual slot for that duct has pretty low clearance and will probably need a bit of encouragement.
The heat shield was the most most annoying part of the whole thing and not as easily reproduceable as I'd like haha. Started with a basic template (cardboard) and cut it out in aluminium. Everything after the flat sheet was bending and riveting. The original template was definitely not accurate by the end, given how much I tweaked. Printed everything out of nylon - even the scoops - because PLA just doesn't hold up to temperature. (Link - https://polymaker.com/product/polymide-copa/) |

This looks amazing. I've been thinking a lot lately of how to get the best induction noise whilst maintaining a sealed intake. I was thinking a carbon fibre euro style box with a k&n filter but this is definitely worth considering.

lol no none yet, I'm still mostly stock just with intake silencer and charcoal filter removed. Trust me I'd kill for a CF intake box and intake tube
