The 3.0L Turbo Quest...
Well, as we all know there is a tuner working on getting a kit together and trying to tune the ECU, and we all read how much trouble these new BMW's are. Basically bullet proof.
One of my good friends who is a genious with computers, and auto tuning is looking into the E90 ECU. He says the ECU can and will be cracked and he will beable to pull off a reliable and worthy setup. He tuned Porsche, BMW, VW, Audi, and a few JDM monsters. We are looking into doing the turbo kit this week, purchasing all the parts that we may need, and get parts fabbed also. The setup will be with a Garrett GT2876R Ball bearing turbo, and we will try to acheive around 380 Flywheel HP. Once we start to put everything together, I will have some pictures to post and the progress. Hopefully if everything turns out the way we are planning than we should be completed by the end of may. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...R_705330_2.htm

Yes I am trying a removable DIY kit. I talked it over with my group of guys and with parts and everything, fabricating a few parts, we Might beable to pull it off in the $2,700.00 Range +/-, maybe a little less because as we are all working together no one is getting paid to do this. This is not going to be a "Built in the Garage" Honda turbo kit. I have already located a new GT28 turbo for $625.00 from a supplier. I dont know why that cheap, or also I dont know how much the mark up on them is. He told me it was a new Turbo and they Retail for around $1,200.00 New. According to them, they seem confident $2,700 should pull it off since we have connections to wholesale pricing on everything. If I can pull this off for this price range, and get everything tuned correctly and the car is reliable wit an Extra 100-120 HP + then I think a sale price of $4,000 - $4,500 would be a good price. But it is early in the proccess right now. So I will have more later on in the week. https://www.amzperformance.com/z31/?...14a10c7672148b

I love the idea of a Turbo Kit for the E90 being only 4500. But I cant help but wonder how will this Turbo kit be compared to the Horsepowerfreaks turbo kit already in the works (Other than price)? How does the GT32 compare to your GT28?

does your budget take into account other parts that you need to buy or replace to adapt to the higher power?
I hope this project work out definitely will be a good bang for the buck if it's priced around 4k. |

***I do not want this to turn into some war on the board, between HPF and I***
I did not go to any type of auto school or anything. I know my share, but any technical questions you guys have and need things answer I will have to go back to my group of guys to provide you with the most recent and accurate information possible. I am helping with this project, but mostly it will be up to them to pull this off.

Pics and progress!
Its very nice to see a fellow e90 enthusiast starting a project like this. Im anxious to see how this works out - as I am sure others are as well. I do have one question - do you think you can mount the turbo without moving the motor mounts? Horsepowerfreaks kit currently moves the motor mounts forward. |
