Sorry mate But the 1M is a 135 with M3 E92 parts, The 1M is a parts bin car with a wide body kit. Thats just how it is, its no M3 or M5. Do we care NO most of us love the little 1M for what it is.
So climb off your high horse, some of what you say is crap.
You should come to our dyno day and have a look around, you may learn something.

This has to be the worst financial decision I have heard for a while...

1. 1M is not a 135i with M3 gears and do the maths to see how much money you have to folk out for the 135 I to look and drive like a 1M

2. Resale...how do you recoup all the mods money when the car is up for sale
$45-60k for a good used 2008-2010 N54 6MT 135i.

~$5000-7000 for parts and labour for a complete M3 suspension/hubs/brakes/LSD retrofit.

~$10,000 for parts and labour for complete 1M bodykit retrofit, paint and appropriate wheels/tyres.

~$3000-10,000 for used and/or new parts for full 1M interior retrofit incl coding for M button and instrument cluster.

~$10,000-30,000 for ///M badge on the boot and special "Powered by ///M" engine cover

As far as I know, the steering rack is not a straight swap unless the 135i has active steering.

But yeah, definitely resale values won't be the same.

FYI, if I had the money I would have bought a 1M, but I'm way too "invested" in my E82 to go back now. I'd like to eventually do the 1M widebody conversion but can't see that happening for a while. Not buying the badge and engine cover though

Nothing wrong with multiple lines of product targeting different groups of customers.

I don't feel that the M badge is diluted in anyway. An M car still drives like an M car and giving the driver all the thrills is all it matters.
Please describe the M experience.....

To some it means checking themselves out in shop windows whilst looking for a coffee shop. To others it is a early sunday morning driving on a empty piece of bent tarmac, with the windows down and the 6 cylinder radio turned up full.

Which one are you ?

If you can heel and toe you are probably the latter. If you cant, most likely the former.

LOL, and why don't you tell us as a car enthusiast, how many times have you taken your 1M on the track? After all, M does stand for motorsport... not marketing, or massive poser.

"Thrills" of going triple digits on a highway or my favorite... "canyon carving" on a weekend. Right...

the one in sydney sold on tuesday for alot less then the advertised price, the dealers all seem keen to move on them, i don't think they are worth more then 225k, so.... i may never see one

one sold at auction recently for 212k + auction fees. no warranty however and been tracked hard

There is something called you lose a little and there is something called you lose a lot. Nobody mentioned anything about making money here.

Yes a car is an asset because you can sell it and get some money back. It is not a good asset because it depreciates.

Taking a car to the track is only track enthusiast. Nothing to do with liking a car.

Purchasing a car for a premium for its driving experience and it's identity is car enthusiast to me.

I can heel and toe. So what now?

My M experience is different to you that's why it's called experience. It is not measurable quantitatively.

Some people here have a 1 dimensional conception of what car enthusiast is about.

It just amazed me how close minded some people are.

Do I care? Not one bit. Everyday I drive my car and have my M experience I am getting my money's worth.

Did I attack people in the forum? I don't think so. May be I am putting out a different view. Some people can't control themselves to jump the gun is their character issue.

Then a track enthusiast is 10x the car enthusiast based on your definition.

To claim you're more of an enthusiast based on your choice of weapon for your commute is laughable. Anyone can spend all day on forums, read Car and Driver and spend few more bucks than the next guy but that doesn't make you an enthusiast. Instead it makes you an insecure elitist wannabe.

lmfao ya back brudda, how ya been? Ya been tearn up the tarmac, feeling the M da pure driving pleasure

I can understand your confused, but can you clarify which decision is going to lose the most

Sorry I thought an asset was something that provides a future benefit and unless you count a loss as a benefit (hey you arent a merchant banker by chance???) then it aint

Lookup 1 Series or BMW Enthusiast and you'll see a pic of Sparoz.

Who else spends serious cash in all the right areas, tracks their car and organises AND partially funds an Advanced BMW Driver Training Day 2500km away from his home? No one, just sayin!
