The M2 will easily out handle the 1M because it has a much better chassis. The M235, which is on skinnier tires, nearly out handles the 1M.

IMO the low number of 1Ms produced for NA will keep prices relatively stable regardless of how good the M2 is. I'm kind of glad that BMW also skimped out on the M2 as they did with the 1M (i.e., no CF roof, no M seats, no fender vents, etc.). The M2 has so much potential, but BMW has to protect the beloved M3/M4.

have you driven a 235? it's very soft and floaty.

the 228s I've driven handled poorly. drove one on an autocross once and it under steered like a drunk elephant

I do agree that the M2 will out handle a 1M due to it having superior F8X M3 parts....but in terms of feel and enjoyment I wouldn't be surprised if it is lacking some as that is the general trend amongst BMWs

As for chassis itself...the current 2-series chassis was an evolution of the E8X chassis design...it's not a huge leap in any way.

I certainly agree with that as well.

M2 is going to be a 5-year run.
http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/12/03/bm...-through-2020/

I imagine the depreciation will rival that of the M3/4.

This will probably bode well for 1M prices.

I just told my new CA that I won't be taking delivery of the first one at my dealership because I intend to wait for any CSL variant. In the interim, I suspect I'll just store my 1M and go lease a Mini Cooper JCW or S hardtop.

I was getting excited for my fellow M2 owners but just got wind that it appears BMW will force power seats and power folding mirrors on USA and Canada customers like they did with M235i. While I know most want it, it's really a pisser because I'm pretty sure the weight figures they post are for the manual seat version. I thought it was great offering fixed manly suspension a la 1M was great, but now BMW USA messes it up again with their stupidity.

Why not let people have the choice?????

It makes no sense. They spend billions on their just-in-time production line and computerized option system but force weight adding and slow seat moving options on the North America.

+1, Having seen quite some images now, the M2 does have some great front angles, but the off shape of the rear flares and the rear 'blob' (between the rear reflector strips) are emerging as aesthetic deal breakers for me. Reserving a final judgement till I've seen it in person but I'm already doubting the M2 would give me the same desire to look back in awe after parking the 1M.

The 1M rims were the first design elements that drew my attention and are spot on in the overall design. In comparison the M2 rims are 'Mehh'.

I hope those aren't stock wheels.

I really like it in blue. Actually a saw one in person in SC over thanksgiving.

The car looks really blah in white. Black is just ok. I bet a metallic grey looks nice.

I'm not impressed by the looks of the M2. The so-called fangs are not appealing to me at all and the back end looks sort of pear shaped. The 1M is far better looking in my opinion.
