Recommendation for brake pressure bleeder?

Hi all,

Enjoying my new to me 2013 128i M-sport 6MT with less than 2,000 miles!! Am thinking about buying a brake bleeder, instead of depending on friends, etc. Looking at either the Ares 70921 or the Schwaben. I know a lot of people have the Motive, but I like that these others have at least another opening to release the pressure, other than the pump. And at least in pictures, seem to be better built? Also, any of you chime in whether the aluminum master cylinder caps are worth the extra money? Thanks in advance!

I did my first brake flush recently with the Motive. It was easy and the pressure release wasn't an issue if you slowly do it. I did the try method which meant a lot of back and forth with releasing pressure and replenishing the reservoir but really not a bother. Upside is no clean up of the bleeder tank. If you are not tracking thus changing fluid every 2-3 years I think the Motive without a pressure release is more than good enough.

Is that 2,000 miles on the clock?!?!

I've got a motive used once on my previous 135i . Would also throw in a pint of ate fluid for $45.00 shipped!

Thanks! I am planning on doing the same, just filling the reservoir, not the tank. And, so far, probably not going to track. Yes, unbelievable....JUST purchased the car with actually less than 1,000 miles on the clock!!!! Basically brand new. But, trying to make sure all needed fluids are taken care of, since it hasn't seen that much use.

We use a Motive bleeder with aluminium cap at the dealer.

Your car sounds like the find of a lifetime! Did someone buy it and die right afterwards or just park it for all this time?

Thanks! Just by chance, came by this car through a friend of a friend. You sort of got it, but not quite. Sad story associated with the car, so owners had bad memories associated with the car, and didn't drive it much, and just wanted to sell I paid more than I normally would have for a used car, but figured it was worth the chance.

I'm sorry to hear there was some negative involved. But your taking the car on and bringing it up to snuff is surely a good thing.

Really good advice can be found on this forum for about anything from problems to maintenance to suspension or power upgrades. Welcome aboard.

I used a schwaben, be careful with it as the cap is finicky and did leak at first took a few tries for it to seal well (say comments/reviews mentioning the same)

I'm another vote for Schwaben.

I flush my fluids yearly (Brake, Trans, Diff) and it's worked perfectly.
The only problem I've come across is the gasket on the orange pressure release cap will not seat correct sometimes, bleeding pressure. Easy enough to hear the hissing. Just remove and reseat in the cap and it's fine.

I've had no issues running multiple different fluids through the same machine. You just want to clean it well and never leave any fluid sitting in it. Should always be stored dry if multi use.

Thanks! Did you mean the Scwaben? Didn't think the Motive had a pressure release valve.

The standard plastic cap

I've only used the motive and the only thing I did to relieve the pressure when I was done is unscrew the cap. There was no fluid in it (I just fill the resovor) so it works fine.
