BMW 1m sudden clutch failure
Hello all. I know this sounds stupid, but after installing an Hms valve control exhaust, the car started building rpm but no speed. And clutch smell was everywhere. Car only has 14000 km or about 8600 miles. Can the clutch wear out that fast?

Well... its not unheard of to be worn out at such low kms. I think the 1M's that were used at the Performance Center got several clutches before those cars were sold off.
I knew a guy who had an old Z28 Camaro('69) he used to brag that while the car still had the window sticker and the plastic on the seats... it only had 300 miles on the odometer... but he would then smile as say he put those 300 miles a Quarter mile at a time! Also... the 1M puts out more torque than the clutch(and trans) can tolerate. So... if you drive hard... yes, you can wear out the clutch. Also some early cars had problems with a leaking rear crankshaft seal. You should also replace that when you do your clutch. Good Luck, Dackel
