So here is the gist of the event:
My session had a 30 minute delay. They had to clear the snow off the track. Only 2 of 3 modules were open. The 3rd, technology module, got cut because of the weather. It was to demonstrate the DSC and active steering. 1st module: Inside tent orientation. 2nd module: Closed circuit test drive. Track emphasizes lane changing, acceleration and braking. 2 laps/person. If you hit a cone, you're out, no more test drive for you. Drive safely. Food and drinks served: Coffee, Coke, diet Coke, Rockstar, Pellegrino, chocolate & oatmeal raisin cookies, rocky road granola, caramel popcorn, chips. Nothing fancy. Tips: Bring winter parka and toque. Event takes place in-tent and not inside. Tents are kept warm by small heaters. It will be cold. I'm sad that we didn't get to try out the 1 series with the performance tires. It was because of the weather =( Was it worth it? It was okay. Wish the weather was better. |

So you go there, they talk to you, you drive two laps and they feed you? Gawd. Not sure I'll make it...

The shortened program is definitely because of the weather. In Vancouver we got to drive the course quite a few times in the technical and the autocross course.

Talked to a buddy of mine who went to the 3:00pm drive, all three modules were open. The weather improved quite a bit this afternoon and a lot of the snow has melted off the roads.
Looking forward to mine tomorrow.

I went to the 1-3 session today, along with member 'raisemyrent'.
It was actually sunny when we went through, and they had just opened up the technical course. They said the delay in opening that course was due to mounting 17" all seasons on some of the 135's used for that exercise. by the time we got there, they actually brought out a few more 135's on summer tires, as the course was starting to dry. Of course they gave everyone one that gift certificate after you filled out the survey at the end. That is worth the drive over, even if you don't get to drive on both courses. Also, they were handing out DVD's of "The Hire". And they had copies of the new performance parts brochure. They Also had the white 135 with the performance parts on it. They didn't drive it, but they started it and you can hear the turbos and waste gates when reved.

If the weather improves they might let you drive the 135i Alpine white with the performance upgrades, because yesterday in the morning they let us drive it... after I got off that car, the other 128i and the 135i without the performance upgrades felt so boring.
And yes if you are planning on buying the car whithin 90 days it is worth it because they give you a gift: a choice of a roof rack, gift certificate for drivers school or warranty for rims and tires. Besides they were also giving out little cards that said that if you bought the car within 90 days the warranty will also cover brakes and stuff... |

It'll be good to drive the white one. We had a chance to drive it on the technical course. Very nice.

One module is the technical course where you check out the DSC and the active steering. Its a slow speed course.
Another is the autocross where you get to see the acceleration, braking and handling of the car. The last is the talk about the car like a media walk around. They had two 128i cabs in the tent they spoke about. Then you go fill out the eval and get the certificate for the free stuff.

in the technical module, you get to test out the DSC and active steering. quick review: active steering is nice but not OMG; DSC, well, we all know that (it just saved my butt today on the highway actually).
Oh, I actually had to brake hard lest I hit a cone or go out of the test track because DSC didn't work as expected when I floored it on the 135i... oh well. It is also worth mentioning that in calgary, in the technical module, right after testing out the systems, there is a little straight where you can floor it on the automatic 135i... and then break hard. That alone was worth the visit. The performance module was lots of fun; we got 128is. I did my first lap and I thought I was going to take out all the cones, but I gave it anyways, and the guy actually told me to slow down a little! Overall, I really enjoyed it and it was very well put together.

I felt bad for one of them though, when one of the guys kept knocking the cones she kept having to run across the track in that huge winter coat to put them back up.

I had a chance to drive them on Friday at 8:00am before the snow fell. Was all sorts of fun, great program that was very informative without being too boring. I really had a chance to push the car on the autocross portion of the course, that car clings to the road as if it was on rails, really great drive!
1 Series is right at the top of my list right now, I don't plan to buy until the end of this year or maybe next spring because of other things going on in my life right now. Too bad that gift certificate expires so quickly :iono: Cheers! |
