UUC Transmission Mount Review

So I decided to do a mod that pretty much all manual transmission Bimmers need...more solid tranny mounts. I did this on my E46 and it made a large improvement in shifting, and the 1er was so different. For those who don't know...the transmission twists slightly under load causing the shifter to misalign with the linkage. This increases the chances of a misshift for one. It also makes shifting gears less smooth. BMW tends to make theirs a little too soft to isolate the cabin from vibration caused by the transmission.

Installation was fairly simple. Remove small plastic cover, support transmission with jack, remove tranny brace, take out old mounts, put in new ones, reinstall.

Review: There is definitely a more "solid" feel to shifting. It reduces the notchiness for sure. It's not a night and day difference, but certainly noticeable. And there was no increase in vibration in the shifter. I'd recommend them for everyone, stock or modified. They're only $35 and there's no drawbacks.

Which mount did you get? UUC has a new "harder" version of the their tranny mount.

I bought the "black" mounts without the enforcers.

Do these increase NVH much? I'm thinking about going with a lightweight flywheel and would probably do these at the same time. Of course, the LWFW might introduce harshness on it's own...will have to think about it.

Anybody got an install pic or diagram on these? Thinkin' about doin it. A short shifter amplifies the squishyness. I've definitely missed some shifts at WOT and think these may help a little bit.

Not to ruin your cake... but did you happen to read Wolfe's review of those mounts!?

I think you would be better off with some e46M3 trans mounts.

Thanks for the post! I'll give these a try and if the NVH is too much, I'll hock these n grab the M3 ones!

Any updates on the UUC mounts? I currently have the E46 M3 mounts on my 1M but I am thinking I can stand to go a little stiffer.

Bringing this back from the dead: I still like my UUC mounts. There's a little clutch chatter, but it's only heard with the windows down. I swear I don't feel any increased vibration though. Maybe I'm just used to it since they've been on the car for years.

This was the opposite of my experience. There was massive amounts of NVH, gear chatter and the works with the UUC mounts. When I went to swap them out, the stud had broken a part of the mount off, and was bent. Replaced the UUC garbage with E46M3 mounts and all is happy again.

Return them or throw them in the trash. Get the E46 M3 mounts or the Rouge mounts.

That's what Ive heard from the other half of people who have tried this . The reason I decided to try them out was cause they seem to improve shift feel more, with consencence of added vibration over the e46 m3 ones. Do you remember if you had the first design or their new bushing design that was released ? Also, did you preload the mounts by applying the weight of the tranny then tightening them? I have noticed the people who installed the mounts and drove carefully a few feet then tightened the mounts down didn't have vibration. I'd like to know your specific situation

I've bought a set of both the blue isolated poly and red bolt through poly with a set of enforcer cups too. I won't install them until my AD engineering motor mounts arrive and then I'll try out both and see which one I like better. Apparently the new isolated mounts are manufactured with a similar process as the stock OEM mounts to prevent them breaking off like they did in previous version. Who knows though. They both come with instructions and have different torque settings.

The black mounts I received today also look different than previous generation . Base has some sort of metal in it . I also contacted uuc for their specific install instruction. They sent me a pdf that states 16 pound feet for both red blue and black mounts.

Yeah I think with the previous versions, the metal plate with the bolt was just stock on top whereas with the new versions they're embedded into the material to prevent it from tearing off. I guess only testing will see if it works.

I currently just have E46 M3 ones in mine but definitely looking to solidify the drivetrain more in order to improve shifter feel with the BMWP SSK. Currently it's super notchy, especially into 2nd.

I am in the same situation. My ssk is awesome but would like to add a bit of smoothness to the over all feel . I'm swappingn out my clutch in a few weeks and that's when I'll install these updated UUC black mounts w/o caps. I'll report back afterwards with how they are .

Come to think about it, the mounts were installed and tightened without load on them. I'll have to check that out.

Also, it was the new design. I'm happy with the shift feel with the E46 mounts. They work perfectly with the Dinan SSK.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try them out and report back. I'm hoping its installation error but looks like It's a roll of the dice.
