I would have to agree with the door handles as well... I think the first thing I noticed when I got the car was... the bad door handles.. it is very far forward (just like how the e90 window switch is too far forward too)

As for the RFTs, I am actually liking them at the moment.. but I guess that's because I havent had much problems yet

the fact that it's a BMW, seriously. Everything is super $$$$ (maintenance,performance parts), and everyone thinks your a snob if you have one. I wish I could have the exact same car with Toyota badges instead

coming from a 997s, not bad, I wanted a fun car with back seats, the rft are the worse 1st day and less than 10 miles hm bent rim, no height adj on the seatbelts I'm 6'2 never seen a car that did not have them, wish the seat could go abit lower, int could be abit nicer as well, almost got the a5 but quality seem to be abit lacking, porsche has great quality int and material metal, etc 135 is decent though, still getting used to the dct seems like it could be smoother on up/down shifts but ok..overall for less than 45k not too bad at all.

well, besides the replacement process for RFT's, I'd say having no engine temperature dial/readout.

Hsha.. I was reading that link and I agree the sound system in this car sucks.... I had the car for 2 weeks and thats the first thing it went in for..

The weight - should of been at least 50kg's lighter, for its size.
Wheels - very high positive offsets which makes it hard to fit wide wheels without fender rolling.
Width - should of had slightly more pumped guards and a wider stance for looks and handling.
Front styling - could have been a bit more aggressive (smaller kidney grilles and sharper headlights).
LSD - should of at least been on the option list.

The 135 is a great car and in regards to the above issues, im just being picky. However, the M1 has supposedly addressed all the above issues so i think when the 135 was released it should have been more like the M1 Coupe.

People give the Armor All wheel protectant a try, I garuntee you wont be dissapointed. Nothing but good things about it from members on this forum (including myself).

+100..This should knock the brake dust complaint off the list. Wheels look great a week after wash, and still decent two+ weeks later.
Anyway I'd probably say the only bad parts for me are understeer and the lame factory "diffusor"!

1. very small gas tank, seems everytime i get there it's 12-12.5 gallons, come on for my little z3m it was fine, but my daily driver...
2. too damn heavy for the size...damn progress and comfort stuff, i've gotten soft enough that for a dd i wanted all the gizmos, plus all the safety and we have a small, reasonably nimble car...that could have been so much better.
3. understeer (easy enough to fix, shocks/springs/e93 sway on the way)
4. rfts, shame to get rid of the tires in such good shape...not sure what to do
5. the little things...

the info center could have more info instead of just a bunch of idiot lights...kind of like the way audi does it with text readout...

and brake dust...i've never owned one running oem pads that wasn't terrible, at least my 1 has the 5 spoke wheels. my previous zhp had awesome looking wheels but a huge PITA. If you don't want dust you've got to go aftermarket. My best experiences were with axxis metal masters...about 75% of initial bite, and similar braking as soon as they got up to temp...much, much less dust

i'm going to have to try the armor all stuff...

THe base stereo in the 128 is a total peice of junk and extremly difficult to upgrade without spending a ton of $$$.
The wheels on the M package should be 18"

After owning mine for going into my 4th month now, I have a few to list:

- The seatbelt gong, it has forced me to change my start-up ritual.
- The way dirty water runs down from under the doors down the middle of the side skirts. The only indication the car is dirty besides the brake dust.
- The brake dust, soon to be more tolerable with gunmetal wheels.
- The CDV, the CDV, the damn CDV!
- The way water runs along the middle of the windows when you are driving. If you have the windows open just a little, water can splash into the car from just above where the side mirrors mount on the car.
- Its not a good getaway car. Stick the fob into the slot and hit the button too quickly the car will yell at you.
- The crazy wheel offsets.
- The fact that snow tires will cost me a fricken grand.
- Even though iDrive is available, you would think that after all these years they would spruce up the factory headunit for those who don't or couldnt get iDrive.
- I think the guages and interior lighting needs to be updated. Orange is so 1990.
- The sparse aftermarket
- The weight


On the opposite side of the coin, what I absolutely love:

- That golftee'd exhaust note
- 300, 300
- The stopping power behind all that brake dust
- HID headlights, although I've seen better
- That pssh when I switch gears under hard acceleration
- The garble from the exhaust on the overrun
- The interior is more luxurious than any car I've owned before
- The fact it has a sunroof
- Those adjustable seat bolsters
- The thick steering wheel and the steering wheel controls
- The info from the onboard computer. My previous cars never had that.
- The fact that its NOT a 3 series


None of the above mentioned problems are enough to make me hate the car. I love it, I love getting in it and I love driving it. Even though people say its "entry level", I still think I've done well for myself. I worked my ass off, saved up, and finally bought a car I didnt have to settle for. I mean I had to settle with not being able to get iDrive like I wanted, but oh well I can live without it.

The polarizers on the radio which mean you can't read it with shades.
The fact that you can't get in without scraping across the edge of the seat.

But I don't know what you guys are complaining about with the tank size, I get 800-900 km (500-600 miles) on a tankful of diesel.

There are threads in the DIY forum on how to fix the radio dial. That was my first mod.

1. The RFTs although in this neck of the woods they are a necessity.
2. How it`s so easy to scuff the door panel.
3. How the water drains down the center of the side skirt.
4. You have to get premium sound to get serious, if not it will cost more than premium sound to mod after purchase.
5. idrive is not available on the 128i
6. Canadian pricing, if I lived in the USA I`d have a much better equipped 135i for the same $$$
7. no dipstick.
8. 12 month oil changes (I did a mid cycle change myself)... My other car is a vintage vette so I guess I make up for this by changing the oil in that every couple weeks!

None of these things are major in my book, I`m fairly anal about things so this and the 335 are the cars that I`ve driven with the smallest gripe list. The corvette list is significantly larger, but I`d never part with it, lol... Overall I think the 1er is a great car, it`s a blast to drive and still pisses people off... You have to admit that is part of the pleasure!

Biggest problem...

I am going to have to spend 70k to find a successor to the 135.

The two things I miss on my 128 are availability of the 2.3 liter diesel (50mpg in a 200 bhp motor...). And a bigger gas tank. Zipping around DC, I am getting about 25mpg.

The brake dust is typical BMW, and a tradeoff, because the brakes are fade free and phenomenal! For as long as I have had BMWs (frst one was a 1984 325e) the brakes have always been far superior to any save the Porsche and Lotus. So, I just wash the wheels every few days and don't worry about it.

Everything else on my car is cool. I was wishing I had rear fog lights, and it turns out I do! Just have to install the lighting switch from Turner Motorport to be able to use them. Even the run flats are acceptable, and yeah, there is understeer, but nothing you can't dial out with some tire pressure adjustment and maybe a stiffer rear sway bar.

In all, a great car. Taking it to a car show tomorrow morning, so we'll see how it is received.

You kid now, but you know someone sooner or later is going to try to cram the e9x M3's engine into a 1. It will be a royal PITA and not remotely cost effective, but the result (assuming it is done by anyone that has a clue) will be a monster that no one will see coming...

A local shop actually did something similar to an e30 M3. They tore everything out and put a new(er) M5 V10 engine into it. When they were done, it still looked like a stock e30 M3 unless you looked under the hood (the shell was really the only thing still stock) or recognized that the e30 never had the twin tail pipes of the newer Ms.

I did swing by and talk to them about it one day. He wouldn't tell me the exact numbers, but said it was well over $200k they put into the car.
