Right knee room for sure. I am not that tall 6'0" +/- .5" and my right knee continually bumps against the steering column no matter what configuration I try of seat and wheel.

I am also bummed out by the display getting totally washed out in sunlight. how annoying!

+1 on weep hole stains, open diff and plastic rattles!

- crack-prone third brake light
- HPFP of Damocles
- feel like I'm going to pull the window out every time I open the door. The "boing" freaks out passengers too, another reason comfort access should be standard. The window snugging home when you close the door is cute, but I just end up thinking "I wonder how much that costs when it breaks"

Small stuff really, I love driving it and it's very comfortable. Run flats and suspension aren't a biggie for me personally, I love suspension work and I'll want to replace/tweak that stuff down the road anyway. It should be interesting to see how they addressed those shortcomings on the 1M. Can't wait to drive it just to see what they thought was weak

It feels like it has "levels" of application instead of a straight line of "go" because it's pretty much the same even in manual mode. And even then still, I don't miss my manual one iota when I have to commute home from work in LA traffic. On the other hand, when the weather is nice, the windows are down and the roads are open—I pine for my manual days or yore.

My wife's 996 has windows like that too. They do sometimes forget that they are supposed to go down.

Sometimes you just have to reset them (in the porsche you roll them all the way down then keep holding the down button for a few seconds), but we've had to have the motor (passenger side) replaced a few times (luckily it's been covered every time so far). When it does break, the window will flex a bit so you shouldn't have to worry about breaking it as long as you aren't slamming the door.

My biggest beef, dealing with the way BMW operates.

For example, I take my car in 3 weeks ago for its free yearly (soon to be no more), oil change, and to fix the rear tail light which went out, and to have the tail light recall replacement. No other recalls, says the SA.

Now this week, I get a letter about the seat belt on fire replacement recall. How long has this recall been in effect?

Dislikes:

-can never find enough road to open her up
-gas tank is way too small (only thing that bothers me on a regular basis)
-no LSD
-no dipstick
-hard to find aftermarket wheels due to offsets

hahaha it's ok man I was just playing with ya. I understand. I was just saying with the DCT you definitely feel the throttle by wire a lot more than in the manual. One remedy for that is a Pivot Throttle Mapper or Sprint Booster. Those will do more for you in that department. WSTO sells the Pivot, should have a thread up here for it.

I keep reading of the 'weird or 'terrible' 1 series offsets.. When i logon to Tirerack, the wheels they show for 135i replacements mostly have 40mm offsets... This is weird? Its the same offset my E36 M3 has, and there are loads of wheels that come with a 40 mm offset.

America home of the whiners

Perhaps its the relative youth on this site...AM radio, manual windows, no AC, no power, brake lock-up, overhauls at 100k, rust holes within 5 years...those were issues that we boomer's put up with.

Good grief, life is rough in these BMW's huh?

Do not have biggest dislike. Brake dust never bothered me and I know many people actually like washing car seeing some look refreshment. I have few likes though

In no particular order, but close:

1. Rain channel or lack thereof, and washer water come right in the window and run and rip onto the window and side mirror switches.
I can't crack my window at all if it's raining as water just rolls right in.
If my window is open and I use the washers to clean the windshield, the fluid runs to the sides and up and into my open drivers window.

2. Frame-less doors. It might make for fancy windows that do a little "snug" zip into their position. But, they have to do that because there is no frame into which a real window channel can be put. It's fashion over function.
It also makes for ugly dirty windows as it allows rain/water to get past the seal where the rain dries and leaves it's dirt residue, which the comes back the next time you wash your car and use your windows.

3. Non adjustable, small, and poorly positioned arm rest. Universally hated it seems.

4. Base audio system in pre 2011 models. Even WORSE for 2011+ models, as the "base" system got worse.

5. Head rests. They need fore/aft adjustment. A simple "tilt" like in the 3 series is cheap and it works.

6. Air Vents. They are cheap and poorly designed cause you can't get the air to flow where you want, at the volume you want it at.

7. Non iDrive cars have the cheapest modern phone list readout. You get 2 lines of readout on the small window in the radio. It takes FOREVER to scroll through the phone list.

8. Cheap driver info screen, non iDrive. Really? $40k+ and we can't a better standard info screen? And, no dual mileage, along with a cheapy push button for mileage reset. C'mon....really?

9. Having to put a "key" in and THEN having to push a start/stop button anyway. Pointless. Fashion over function, and they want $500 to make that go away, calling it "comfort access", which means without it, access is not very comfortable.

Top 3 for me are the bad rain channels, arm rest, and audio.

Other than that it's not bad at all.

40s fit but not very well. The ideal rear offset is upwards of 60 for a 9 1/2 inch wheel

I love my 135i. My wish-list (because I don't have any gripes):

-Mechanical LSD available as an option
-Foglights in the 135i fascia
-OE rear foglight
-Turbo boost and coolant temp available for reading somehow (easily)
-integrated antenna on convertible, so the trunk-mount mast antenna would not be there.
-Spare tire (maybe)
-OE tilting mirror even if power seats are not orderd

My driver window motor already failed. Had it replaced about 2 months ago. Spent a whole day having to clamber in from the passenger side because the driver side door wouldn't close properly unless I was outside to carefully slot the glass into the seal. Absolute POS

A main gripe I have - single wheel peels out of tight corners. Why the hell does this car have 400nm and no LSD?

All BMW had the same brake dust problem, for me it's the gas tank man for every 240 miles I had to fill her up. What a pain compare to my E90 a tank could last over 340 miles.

On my first test drive the wind unexpectedly caught the door and the only thing that saved the car next to me was that the last test driver parked really bad so the door couldn't reach it. Won't keep me from buying it though.
I completely agree! This makes me stress when opening the door...
