creaking behind trim?

I am hearing an annnnoooyyyinnng creak behind the lateral rear trim on the passenger side (128i). I can hear it when I'm driving, and I can make it creak if I press on the trim.

Has anyone experienced this or know how to remove this piece of trim?

You just pull. It's all clips and push push pins. Chances are you will break a few of the plastic ones, which is normal. Buy spares before you remove it.

As for the squeak, I suspect you will be blindly adding foam tape to suspicious areas until you nail it.

Silicone spray works well if you don't want to dismantle everything. Shoot some into the crevices between the trim and the rest of the surrounding area surfaces. I had a similar problem with the "A" pillar trim where it meets the dashboard on the passenger side and the spray alleviated the popping/cracking sounds when the car went over bumps.

It's not a bad stop gap, but you will be back to do it again later.

"Disassembling everything" in this case is just pulling a panel.

Yeah, I know that, but when it's not convenient to remove the A-pillar panel, it's a good substitute. And if I have to give it another squirt of silicone spray (using one of those thin-tube sprayers), it's another 10 seconds out of my day. So far, it's lasted 2 months.

My dealer "found" my squeak and "conditioned" the gaskets around my truck lid. Lasted all of 8 miles before it returned worse than before. Back in the shop next week.

I have the same creaking on rear passenger panel, on my 2011 135i. As as temporary measure, I went around the entire panel, and pounded on the entire circumference with my fist. It helped, and released some of the frustration I had built up as a bonus ... ;-)
