-2008 135i n54
-failed at 62k miles
-replacement cost around $600 for parts and labor for both the water pump and thermostat
-no symptoms before it happened, was driving fine one day and failed the next day and I had to limp it home, driving like half a mile then shutting it off for 10 minutes and repeating.

Thanks, I drove it again today and same thing. I checked the thermostat fuse in the DME box on the off chance but it was fine. So I guess I’m replacing the water pump and thermostat.

2009 N52 with 81,000 miles and no sign of any problems. I just replaced mine last weekend since I needed to change my coolant and decided to do everything at once.

I'll take the pump apart this weekend and look for any sign of cracking on the impeller or wear to the brushes in the motor.

2013 135is with 128,000 miles. No overheating issues or signs of malfunction. However, I pulled the codes and received a 00377A "Engine cooling; coolant pump shutdown due to blockage"

Ordered the water pump, tstat, bolts, tstat hose and an aluminum flange. Got coolant ready too.

Would appreciate some additional insight. Mine is a 2012 128i 'vert with 95K miles. i believe the WP is original. I've seen the replacement WP PN as 11-51-7-632-426 but Tischer shows 11-51-7-586-925 as the PN for a 128i.

The Tischer PN indicates a rebuilt unit, and the 11-51-7-632-426 PN seems to indicate 'new' although they are the same price.

Has there been a redesign or upgrade by any other manufacturer or rebuilder for the WP? If so, please indicate details. Thanks!

Talking Hello!

Hello, I'm a new member.

The water pump on my 2012 135i M-Sport failed 2/17/20 at 45,768 miles.

I had the BMW Gold Warranty when it failed. It only covered the water pump and not the thermostat. It'll be interesting to see how long the thermostat lasts!

BTW, the car went into limp mode directly in front of the dealer.

The thermostat was probably still good but they replace it because it's right there.

I was merely pointing out that the BMW Gold Warranty doesn't do any proactive repairs or maintenance like most owners would do.

My guess is they just replaced the WP and took the car for a run to see if the oil temperature was OK. After the repair, I did a scan and checked the coolant temperature to see if it was OK.

I also suspect the thermostat won't need replacing anytime soon.

I have a 2012 128i with 55k miles and the original water pump. Not signs of failing yet. Although I am planning to replace it hopefully before winter break.

...And I have no idea if my 128i with 179k miles has its original water pump. I haven't seen any records of it from the previous owner but I have no clue if the FIRST owner did anything. I really should just replace it anyway..

My 2011 135i WP failed fall of 2020 at 59K. First overheat and limp mode on the freeway. Waited 20 minutes and drove off, saw coolant in engine bay seemingly from expansion tank and/or cap. Drove home 50 miles no problem. I suspected the WP but thought this fail would be absolute and not intermittent. Code pointed to failed pump. I went ahead and replaced the expansion tank, WP and tsat.

Chiming in to say I'm going on 63k with my 1 that I've had for a week. Under close inspection I can see coolant seeping out and around the water pump area, so within a month or three (before winter) I'll change it and alllllll the related tstat and plumbing parts.

I responded to the poll, my 2009 water electric water pump failed at about the 70k watermark. I installed the improved replacement from ECS Tuning with great results.
