M3 Rear Subframe Bushings - NVH?

128 6MT Sport with 56,000 miles (daily driver into Boston). I'm going to install Koni FSD's and am considering the M3 RSFB based on the many comments on this forum.

My question is: Does changing to these bushings add any significant NVH?

Thanks to all in advance.

The NVH is not that bad at all. Only on really rough cobble stone roads is the NVH worse, and then only about 20% more I would say. The M3 subframe bushings are a win-win if you ask me. Your rear suspension will not feel like its held in place by rubber bands! It will feel like a firm, but solid car. We should have gotten these from BMW from the get go.

My biggest surprise is how much better the front suspension seems to work now with the firmer rear bushings. Also when you go over small dips or bumps at low speeds, or man hole covers... you will not have to contantly correct the steering to maintain a straight ahead driving line. Do it!

The rear subframe bushings really help make the car feel better. My car had a shudder when going over potholes and manhole covers, and the rear bounced around badly under hard cornering. The car was much better after installing the bushings.

Where can I purchase the m3 bushings? I found the tool to do it, but can't find the bushings themselves!

Buy them from Harold at HP Autowerks. Dackel is spot on regarding the front end of the car after the rear subframe bushings are added. I went one step further and added the M3 front control arm kit and magnified the improvement. GL

Dan @ United BMW or Will @ Performance Racing Solutions in FL also can get them.

The installation is the only thing that's stopping me from the upgrade.

Do it! It will be the best four hours(that is what mine charged me!) of shop rate you ever spent!

I would ask around at your local bmw dealers... ask them to look up the cost of replacing the rear bushing on a M3 or 1M(not on your car!). hats bc the 135i bushing get pressed out thru the bottom of the subframe axle... while on the M3/1M the front bushings get pressed out/in from ABOVE... which means dropping the rear axle. Most shops should not charge you more than six hours to do this upgrade. I believe Wade found a shop near the 'Ring to do his.

My go-to guy in Wiesbaden doesn't have the special tool required and the Mainz BMW dealership is very mod unfriendly.
I'm waiting for Wade's update on his install. If all goes well I'll make the drive over there.

I asked the parts guy at my dealership in Sydney, Australia about the M3 rear subframe bushings and he said that the 2 front bushings were the same size, but the 2 rear bushings were different sizes. A big one and a small one. I didn't grab the part numbers from him, but maybe it's because I have an E88?

Anyone care to shed any light?

Your parts guy is miss informed. The M3(1M) rear subframe bushing WILL FIT in our e82's just fine.

The only difference is the forward mounts must be pressed out from under to above the subframe. The rears come out (and go back in) from the bottom side. So in order to press in the forward mounts... you have to drop the rear axle a foot or two - to have enough clearance for the tool to get up in there.

I posted a detailed step by step DIY for the rear subframe bushings a few months ago. Check the DIY forum.
