It's a rest of the world thing. Only the US appears to miss out on the extra storage space. Why I don't know:iono:

Tecnically, yes, it is. I know some people from Mexico City and they refer to this area (north, central and south) as the Americas. North America isn't a term they use.

Don't think it retrofittable. Must have been deleted to cut cost....:iono:

It was true in the E39 cars for which there was a popular retrofit with a bigger (dual?) glove compartment. The part is just a different panel (same attachment points) and a rubber insert. I scoped out the parts on www.realoem.com:

You won't be able to retrofit that into a convertible because there is a knee airbag there in US Spec models (not sure about other markets). I did a similar mod in my Jetta and it required removing a couple of braces and the padding was attached to the old part. On the E90, I think it required changing the ENTIRE dashboard because it was one piece.

As far as I know, the E90 dash trim has a separate piece on the left of the steering wheel - I mean the one that holds the light switch. And the E82 I think is very similar.

makes sense, but this car probably isn't a diesel...at least not with a 7000rpm redline tach

As for the knee airbag...turns out that it is in a different location than the arrow in the owners manual points to it. It is there (looked at it yesterday) , just directly under the steering wheel, not around the light switch. |

off topic but
did anyone actually have a flashlight included in the glove box ? and the credit card holder in the center console ? both of which are described in the Owner's manual but I have not seen in person. Wish BMW'd spent some money on revising the Brochures and Owner's Manual

Open the top of the center armrest, look carefully, and you should see the slot for a credit card.

Did anyone ever try to do this?
I'm struggling to try to find a good place to keep my change that doesn't rattle constantly and/or fly violently throughout the cabin. Edit: I did find this thread, but am still curious about the option above. |
