E92 base hifi no AMP (extensively googled)
Hi All,
Apologies if this has been covered, i have searched every forum and web page i can find with no avail. I have a 320d e92 with the base hifi (no amp) just 6 speakers run from the head unit. I want to buy and install the stage 1 audio and the uf110 sub unit from bavarian soundwerks however with there being no factory amp i have a few questions and any help would be appreciated. If i were to put an amp in, even say a factory amp (just as an example) for this, does anyone know if the wiring loom/connectors is already in palce to accomodate this and if i will need to re wire all the speakers back to the amp and then the amp off to the head unit or if the wiring is already there and some existing cables will need to be cut etc. In short is there an easy way to perform this upgrade, ie a way bmw would do it or is it going to be a whole load of wiring and stripping everything down etc? Im assuming that the hifi system that has the factory amp runs all of the speakers through it? Appreciate the help Chris |

Have a read through the HUGE Alpine Hi-Fi upgrade thread on here.
If you want to add an amp of any sort, then you'll have to run new wiring through. The Alpine setup comes with a loom that is just plug'n'play, if you go aftermarket you'll have to do something a bit more tricky.

The Alpine system has a high level input which means it connects into the existing speaker output wires at each front footwell.
The other BMW sound options use amplifiers in the boot which connect directly to the head unit which means the head unit amplifier is disabled which requires a coding change. So, if yours is the basic unit, there will be nothing in the car on which to build therefore complete wiring looms and a visit to the dealer for coding (unless you are using high level inputs.) |

I can vouch for the Alpine HiFi retrofit being worth it. Check the sticky!

Ok so then the standard BMW options with the amp, the amp itself does not connect directly to the speakers, but the headunit relays the signal to the amp and back to the speakers?
Im wondering if its a good idea to get the loom from the alpine upgrade and utilize that with the uf110 amp you get if same connection or if its better to rewire the lot, so run all new cables from the speakers back to a new aftermarket amp and then the amp off to the headunit? Im assuming the amp from bavarian is high level, they dont really reveal much information on the amp itself on the site. I was looking at the alpine upgrade but i'd rather get the bavarian speakers and sub as the reviews are excellent. I will have to get the alpine trims for the front tweeters anyway so if the loom can be used to some extent then it may be worth ordering that as well. Cheers for the help |
