135i front and rear caliper seals
Though I own a E90 I need your help with this question. I purchased a used BMW performance brake upgrade for my E90 and from what I understand it is the same calipers you 1 series guys use.(135i) I want to rebuild the calipers first before installing them and my question is about the dust boots and seals. I ordered a set online from tischer bmw for the front and rear but from what I can see in the pictures it looks like just dust boots. I have rebuilt calipers in the past and and the kits came with a dust boot and a large O ring type seal.
Are the seals and dust boots a single unit? Also I do not track my car so it would be a waste to upgrade my pistons; correct? Thanks guys for any help you can give. |

Should have both. Look at the picture here, shows both: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...445220&jsn=936 Maybe the pics are not representative fully? For the pistons, inspect the heads for any cracking/chunking, and then the obvious checks in the piston bores for scoring and on the piston body. No need to upgrade/replace them if they are in good condition. Will never pose a problem on the street. |

I searched and searched, even called the bmw dealer; they cannot find seals. They told me all I need are these 2 rebuild kits....34216780515(rear) and 34116780507 (front). But when they arrived the other day they are only had dust boots in the kit. When you pull up a diagram through BMW of the 135i E82 calipers they only show what appears to be one ring....what came in the rebuild kit.
The pic you sent me is for a 135i correct? Not a 128i. Thanks you soooo much for the help. |

I just looked on rockauto...yep 135i. Wow so freakin odd that no one can find the seals through BMW. I was on the phone with ECS tuning for an hour while they searched for genuine BMW seals and they could find nothing. Any preference in Carlson or Centric brands? Well thanks again for the info.!

No worries - don't know why BMW doesn't sell the same, that's confusing. Centric is well known, I don't know Carlson per se although I'd bet they are all made in the same factory lol. Good luck.
PS: And yes I searched for 135i - looks like you found the kit on rockauto anyway. |

BMW don't sell piston seals for any of the current calipers. If it requires the square seal then it's a whole caliper.
I don't have the diameters on hand but there are several resources available that will tell you. You will need 4 different size seal kits from memory and the rear requires the largest. Once you find the correct diameters, you can then find the appropriate genuine Brembo seal kits which come with assembly lube, boots and the square seals and even instructions. Have you rebuilt calipers before? |

Rockauto should sell these, I bought a set before for these calipers.
