Out of warranty SIB
My 2011 135i is out of warranty and I am having the surging DCT issue. I assume since it is out of warranty, I will need to pay to have the new software installed. Is that correct? Anybody have an idea of how many hours they charge for it?

You can always ask. Did you report it before the warranty expired? If you have a service history for it maybe they'll cover it. You can always call BMW NA and see if they'll cover it gratis.

Most dealerships only charge an hour for programming.

Yes, ask first IF they will do it for free. But one or two hours max is what most dealers will charge for a SW update.

My shop turned me away first time because they said it takes all day and didn't have loaners for me. So I had to reschedule a new appointment for a day when I could secure a loaner in case the car has to stay overnight lol.

Yes, total time to do the SW update might take over night(sometimes). But the dealer should not charge the customer more than one or two hours - the shop's labor time/rate.

If you have to pay for it they should have a labor rate. If for some reason it doesn't take the first time, you shouldn't be on the hook for more than a couple hours. My last update took a couple hours since it took right off.
It's not like they have their hands on your car all the time. All it's doing is taking up a service bay.
