Recommended Battery?
Does anyone have recommendations for a battery - brand, size, etc. The only thing I have other than stock drawing current is a JL Audio X/600 and the accompanying CleanSweep. I don't know what else you would need to determine what's best.
Thanks. |

You can just goggle it. Our cars were listed in the book at Walmart when I looked recently. I've had no trouble getting alternatives from Advance Auto parts and other sellers. I will want to look at the battery and note the location of the vent and battery terminals but I believe the batteries people list will fit. But if the terminals are arranged differently or the vent is in a different place on the case (or even worse missing) then I will get a different battery. You also have to decide on wet versus mat.

I've also used Diehards in the past. We had to buy a battery for a daughters old Jeep Cherokee recently and I was unpleasantly surprised by their price and warranty. I found several sources of batteries with longer warranties and lower prices (Walmart, Advance Auto and another auto parts place who's name I can't remember at the moment). Walmart was less than $110 for a battery with a free 3 year replacement warranty. For a car that makes a lot of short trips at college, that seemed like a good deal.
Long way of saying I would include Sears but I would look around a bit.

Part of replacing the battery is getting your car coded to recognize the new battery. You can go to the dealer, have an indy do it, or use something like BMWhat.
The car actually charges an older battery more and more to accommodate it as it ages. If you don't have the car coded you can significantly reduce the durability of the battery, not to mention you won't be taking advantage of the efficiency BMW engineered in. Good luck,

So I had the battery on a tender all night. I made a couple of short trips around town and went to Advance Auto. The test said that the CCA was down to 380, and voltage was at 12.22. I went straight from there to pick my daughter up from school. 2 seconds after I turned the car off, the battery icon lit up.
I got home & looked online and found a $50 coupon for Advance Auto. $151 for their Platinum AGM battery with 900 CCA and a 36 month warranty. The local shop here will code/register it for $40-50, but I might go ahead and spend $60 for bmwhat and register it myself. Unless someone wants to PM me with a link to the APK. $210 is much cheaper than the $450 the dealer wants. oh, and DAMN is the new battery heavy. Easily 10lbs heavier than the OEM BMW battery. |
