Euro spec 1er vs US spec: what's the difference?
I always wanted to know just how different are our cars from what you can get in Europe. Besides clear turn signals and disconnected fog lights (easy fix - look in diy thread), I cant come up with anything else. Help me out here!

Just go look at one of the european BMW sites like BMW UK. There are different engines (ie. diesels), finishes and colors available in other parts of the world. I would imagine that nearly everything else is the same.

Euro cars have a second projector on the Xenon assembly, US cars don't. Another small difference besides the Amber corners.

Not for 2010 models. The sunroof is now ordered separately or as part of the Premium package.

I hear you on that one. I have a leatherette in mine, not as bad but still. We could use ventilated seats. My neighbor got those on his Lexus IS.

Differences....UK & US
The main one is the Price! UK 125i M Sport(that's the de-tuned 128i which everyone else seems to have!) retails at about £26k for a base model. In the US it seems to be about $26k (so much for the 1:1.7 exchange rate). Thus, for my 125i which I've just ordered I could have had a 135i with every option in the States.
Additional bits incude: US have the M Sport Footrest - there's no RHD version available. US also have the 2nd cupholder - the removeable one (on a stalk) on the right of the center console near the passenger's footwell. Even if we have iDrive we (in the UK) still don't get that.. we have 1 cupholder only. I'm sure there are a few more differences...including choice of colour. We have only about 5 or so for a 125i. A few more for a 135i. Hope this helps. |

When I was in Germany a few weeks ago I discussed the purchase price of my 128i with my collegues. It looks like I paid in USD what the Europeans pay in Euros. Thats about a 40% discount.

in Switzerland the entry price is:60.000CHF something like 40K euros We also have the "non leather" option called Sensatec, that was my choice, and very happy with it. the ugly amber is deleted the cupholder depends on witch interior finish you choosed. you can have one behind the amrest and the optional one... i didn't get either, don't ask why i think some changes in suspension too. and other little differences... |

Either my Geography is THAT bad or the USA is closer to Europe than I thought! Currently your saving is about £10k or just over 11.5k Euro on what we pay in the UK and Europe....I'm presuming here that USA is BMW's largest market? |

we have a place where you can put stuff on between the steering column and the lights switch, not sure what its called. Euro version comes with sport seats as standard if I'm not mistaken because mine did without ordering it. We don't get a button to open the boot from the inside next to the driver's foot well I believe the US cars have this. We have to order the 10 HiFi Speaker option which is your standard speaker system, as European version comes with 6 speakers standard. Not sure if you guys have rear fogs or not.

That European car must not have the adaptive headlights or something. The inside lights on the US 1 light up the corners as you turn, and I don't see how they could do that without the special lens we have. Intersting. |

Not sure what the real reason is? Wierd part is, I have never seen a Euro 1er with our type of inner lenses either.
