130 vs 125
Getting my car serviced by Andrew at ALS performance in Sydney. He said they checked out the difference between the 130 and 125i engine. According to him, it's not just the intake manifold as most people are suggesting.
He said the exhaust was more restrictive on the 125i, also the throttle body smaller, and the actual intake hole going into the engine was narrower (part of the intake manifold i suppose). He reckoned there were quite a few bits to be replaced to get the engine upgraded from 125 to 130 power.. (ie. 160 --> 195kw) Will chat with him more about it when i drop my car in next month for a service, but I think he's probably right given the amount of hot air circulating on how easy it should be to get the 125i engine up to 130i spec. Am yet to see someone actually achieve this. So basically unless you find a wrecked 130i and can get these parts undamaged at a reasonable price, the cost of changing over the parts will be prohibitively expensive. I don't know how much an engine remap to 130 would cost either.. Have been on and off the board, mostly reading for the 2 years since i got my 125i, and have yet to see anyone actually attain this holy grail of 125i tuning. Comments?

In the states there is the BMW performance ppk for the 328 (325 for you guys) makes the N52 x30i spec
It includes an intake, dme flash, throttle body, and a new crankshaft. I'm guessing the 130 has a different firing order. Though I'm not 100% on that |

The only PPK available in the US is for the N54. Supposedly an N55 kit is due out this year. Outside the US, a PPK is offered for N47 diesel engines, but there is nothing for the N52.

janus, checkout the thread in the Australian section by Drawn05 regarding his Digi-tech tune from Germany. They claim power increase to 200kw, and his tests seem to show an increase in performance after he received his ECU back from Europe.

My bad. The PPK is only available for pre-2006 models. |
