My Official BMW 135i Build Thread

Hello everyone! So ill get straight to it, this is my 2008 BMW 135i with the N54 engine it just rolled over 100,000 kms here in Canada and the car is running great! Ive only had the car for a little over a year now but am obsessed with how it drives and the way it looks. The car is already full bolt on (FBO) but my plans for this car is to do a bunch more work cosmetically and for performance and to do all of the work myself out of my garage. I want to go with the Doc Race 6266 Top mount Single turbo kit and am planning on going 1m widebody + all the little goodies that can be purchased for these cars (read further down). So please tell me what you think so far! and id love to see some of your modified 135i's! Also shout out to Budget Bimmers on youtube those guys are cool and they have helped a lot.

I will be updating this post when more happens to this car but this is what i have done so far ever since i got it stock at 88 kms. When i first got the car i looked like it had been in a minor front end accident and was missing all grilles and headlight washer covers, the car was also waaaaay too low due to the previous owner putting on very low lowering springs. The engine ran fine but had very noticeable waste gate rattle and would often cut off into limp mode. All this aside after test driving the car i got it for 10k!!! there was a few issues but the engine looked ok mechanically and i thought it was a good price. Also keep in mind this is 10k Cad not Usd so its pretty good i think, so here is what i have done so far:

Car when i bought it:https://photos.app.goo.gl/b5vHEXjYH5gm5bni9

(89 kms) First thing i did was coil overs which was a must do due to how low the car was (my under body is a broken mess to anyone who was wondering) Shortly after i got new kidney Grilles and washer covers to make the front look better!

(90 kms) After driving it stock for a few months i knew i had to do something about my waste gate and limp mode, this was the time where i first got my hands dirty and really started to take an interest in the N54 engine. I tightened my waste gates manually and ended up diagnosing the limp mode to be bad vannos solenoids which i then also replaced. The car was now running great! it was also around this time where i discovered MHD which instantly had me hooked on tuning to stage 1. asides from that i was just cleaning the car religiously and making it look and feel good, changed spark plugs and coils with boch oem and also did an oil change with Liqui Molly Special Tec LL which i have been using ever since, but considering motul

(95 kms) Blue vacuum hoses, and ARM Motorsports 3" cat less Down pipes allowing me to go stage 1+ which was fun ! I also ended up buying rear fenders to start the 1m conversion process because they were very hard to find but thankfully a user by the name of niftyfiftyfour makes these rear quarters by hand so i wanted to get some right away just in case he ever stopped making them. it was also around this time i made my 1addicts account.. i love this forum. <3 now it was winter so i got some rims and Michelin x ice 3 winter tires! I ended up doing lots of work to the car over the winter in my garage and really got more familiar to working on the n54 engine, i changed my valve cover gasket, upgraded to the RB pcv valve, did the serpentine belt and tensioners, and did the oil filter housing gasket + a bunch of other little gaskets!

(100 kms) just rolled over 100k WOO! lol this was really recent a few weeks ago from when ever im posting this. Bought a BMS 7.5 inch stepped Race inter cooler, BMS oil catch can, and BMS charge pipe with tail BOV. Car feels fantastic and am running MHD stage 2+ now. did my first track day and was soooo close to beating an audi r8 v10 on the drag strip Also bought a nexus 7 tablet for MHD stats to be displayed while driving. also got some bronze powder coated niche targa wheels with Pilot sport 4s' and they are incredible, running a square setup 245's all around.

-----------------------------------Up To Date --------------------------------------

What i still want to do to the car:
Flat bottom alcantera steering wheel
Recaro sportster Cs Seats
Doc Race 6266 Top mount Single turbo kit
Engine mounts and trans mounts
Limited slip Diff
m3 lower control arms
index 12 injectors (NEED BADLY)
quad rear exhaust
Jb4
RTD short shifter
M3 Style hood (bulge)
Bavgruppe headlights
Blackline Tail lights
csl style trunk lid spoiler

Thanks for reading please tell me what you think!

Nice!! Looks like you've already dug into it and made some progress.

Don't forget to do the regular maintenance stuff if it hasn't been done yet. Walnut Blast, Water Pump & Thermostat, Chargepipe (I know it's not maintenance but still) and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. Ohh and maybe also a good idea to replace vacuum lines when you do the single turbo install.

Thanks! I appreciate all the positive feedback already and ya I'm definitely need for a walnut blast but I'm hesitant to do it because IM ALLERGIC TO NUTS 😂 LOL isn't that funny I'm scared to walnut blast my n54 because it can kill me lol I just had to say that but anyway I did my vaccum lines not too long ago and got the bms charge pipe which is awesome also the water pump was replaced by the previous owner I think around 40,000kms so I might be due soon but I will continue to maintain the car and do what you guys recommend thanks!

Haha, kinda funny about the Walnuts. The long tedious DIY alternative is a brush, some CRC Valve Cleaner (or similar) and get to scrubbing.

A shop around here charges about $450 USD for the job for reference if you try to go that route. Shops in SoCal like JBSpeed I think do it for like $250 since they do a ton I'm sure.

Could also just use corn cob as your blasting media (it's a thing, I didn't just make that up).

Your car is looking great and I am sure it is a lot of fun!

The tablet fits very well where it is and appears to provide important metrics to monitor.

It will be fun to watch the improvements.

Awesome car man. Sounds like you've got some serious plans, should be a pretty sick build! Make sure you update! I'm also in Ontario so hopefully I see you around sometime!
