I am not so sure they did this since the affected area is smooth now. That is unless they filled in the cracks with paint which should be noticeable.

I have 30k miles on my 08 and the upper outside of the bolster is just starting to lose its outer layer, flaking off a tiny bit at a time. Its barely noticable right now, unless you're getting your nose down there while cleaning the leather.

first of all the leatherette in my mini cooper s, sucks its all cracked pieces came out of it and it cuts my skin when im driving, i have a 135i order wit coral red leather and it better not do that shit bcz now im getting worried bcz everyones having problems with this car and i just spent 50,000 on it and im gunna b pissed if its a piece of crap. the engine has problems the computers the leather what happened to the classy quality of a BMW , we will see when mine comes

That looks like the laminate is coming off before curing. Same thing happened on one of my thigh bolsters. A SM noticed it, pointed it out to me, and replaced it under warranty.
PS: my 95.5 M3 with leather seats never had so much as a crack after 130000 miles under Tucson, AZ sunlight. You just have to take care of leather.
