A agree. I really love the older raw motoring experience. I hope their new line of cars harkens back to the OG M cars

Some 'in the metal' pics here guys: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1187916

I was at my local dealer on Saturday taking an M4 for a spin, and was chatting with the sales guys. Said a few 1M owners had ordered M2's, but were also keeping their 1M's.

Had some fun tonight photographing some friends ///Ms along with my 1M. I wonder how the M2 in white would integrate with this group...

I want one of each! E30, E46 and even E90! They look great. Wish they had white 1M for the pic for optimal comparison.

On the M2, It looks great on the outside, though not a fan of LB Blue and the rear tail lights look weird, but with that said it looks great and performance looks great but it's just another iteration of the uber complex modern day unfocused make everyone happy cockpit. Really, if I could get the no idrive no screen cockpit, I would've probably gotten it. It's not special because those cockpits are a dime a dozen....every car has them. Now I see sunroof, active suspension options, probably active sound and all those things that EVERY new BMW has. When the 1M came out it was different. No sunroof! No Manual, No active suspension option.... whether you wanted that stuff or not is irrelevant....it was different and special.

The three thoughts I have now are:

1. I hope this doesn't become a 1M vs M2 bitch thing. M2 is a great car that BMW needed to build and very cool.

2. I'm so fatigued about everyone taking shots at the 1M. First the M235i, now the M2. Get a life BMW! Yes it's faster!!!! Both are but some of this comes from automatic gearboxes, better tires than the original, more development time etc. Whatever deficiencies the 1M has, whether handling, lag, traction control issues, understeer, etc. They are real. No automatics, no fake sound, just real and that makes it stand out from all of the new BMWs.

3. Finally on "dated looks" W H A T E V E R!

Here are pics of my other favorite "DATED" looking cars!

Well Said Mr. Roboto
I really like BMW's but currently BMW does not make a car that I would buy. I don't care about Nurburgring times - I care about the driving experience. Yes I am old school but this old school driver created the demand for the original M cars. I feel they have strayed too far from the original DNA. I'll never forget Peter Gregg picking me up in high school in an old CSL - What a lasting impression and departure from our family's Buick Riviera!
Thank you - I'll be keeping my 1M.

We got 1M's with nav, Bluetooth, harmon kardon sound, etc here. What's with these pared back bare bones 1M's you guys keep referring to? Is that how they came in the US?

In most of Europe (some smaller countries like Netherlands exempt) and NA models, NAV was a paid option or package. Bluetooth-HFP, USB/Ipod and Harmon Kardon were also available on no-Nav entertainment systems.

I think that the M2 sounds great! Will be a nice evolution of the 1M program, which means that it will remain a driver's car - albeit bringing the advancements that a 2016 car should bring over a 2011 vehicle, particularly the track-based engineering.

I'll echo other sentiments on this forum and say that if I didn't own a 1M I would most likely buy an M2. As I'm unfortunately not in a position to own both and I don't intend to sell the 1-er, I'll be watching from the sidelines until perhaps a CSL/GTS variant is released

The rear bumper for the M2 kills it for me. As soon as I saw it I knew I'd be looking for a 1M instead. You cannot argue the 1M rear end looks lightyears better!

yup. though the M2 is wider than the normal 2 series, the flare just isn't doing it for me. It is too rounded and not as noticeable that its flared (I stand corrected until I see it in person on the road). Would of been amazing if it came out like or close to the M235i Racing flare

And based on that previous quote I'd argue that 1M prices may rise beyond ~MSRP once M2 factory warranties have ended (4-5 years), or sooner if M2 handling is reviewed as sub 1M
