Rattling mostly and a little grinding noise.

Shop says coming from the rear of the transmission on my 2011 135i MT. I bought the car from a person on the forum a few months ago and the rattle seems to be getting worse as time goes on. A couple questions for the experts here, would the bearings on the rear output shaft be changeable in the field or would it be best to find a used transmission and change it out??
Also is there a "model number" of the trans to help locate what is available??
Any one else experience a similar situation? Has 105k on it now.
Thanks!! Greg

Does it has a single mass flywheel?? Aftermarket clutch? Noise happen when driving and/or at idle? Noise gone when clutch is depresses? Noise gets worst when warm? Or stay the same? Checked/replaced transmission fluid yet?

Sounds like it might have a single mass flywheel? The transmission is not serviceable. ZF stopped providing replacement parts in the early 2000s and they now operate remanufacturing plants. All transmissions get sent to them for rebuild and it's costly.

The N55/1M transmission is a (G)S6-45BZ. I have seen people swap in the N54 (G)S6-53BZ since the N55 transmission is goign for 3-4x the price (for no reason). You can get them for under $1000 though. I think you would need to modify the shift linkage to get the shifter to line up right if you went for an N54 trans.

45bz is rated by ZF to 470nm
53bz is rated for 600nm+?

Or, just drive the damn car until something breaks lol
