android dashboard app that works with k-dcan?

I'd found one I really wanted to try but I can't get it to talk, RealDash.

Just looking for something more flashy than the normal MHD one.

Kind of want to make a tablet overlay to the stock display (no codes or complaints that way), just something that fits right over the top.

Finally got the chance to play with RealDash for a bit today. Same as you iminhell1 I simply couldn't get it to connect.

First I verified my tablet is compatible with RD- yep, it is (Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 10 (SM-T810)). I used the RD online faq and manuals to be sure that I had configured my OBD connection correctly... Heck, I even tried several connection settings/combinations- alas, all in vain. My Google-Fu was unable to come up with anything helpful despite my best efforts.

The RD connection config options are limited, but should be sufficient for the task at hand. I'm fairly sure we're not the first N54's to try the app, or E82 N54 specifically, so I followed their OBD2 "new connection fails" process from the faq and sent logs per their instructions. Probably just something stupid in the configuration process, but I'll report back what they advise...

From the RD faq- https://realdash.net/faq.php

Connectivity

How to set up a connection?
  • Open Garage and tap the vehicle door.
  • Tap the cluster / RealDash logo.
  • Select 'Add' from the menu.

How to improve OBD2 connection?
  • You can try to improve the performance by enabling two optimizations for OBD connection.
  • Go to 'Garage->Connections' and select your OBD2 connection settings.
  • The 'Use Multipid Request' will increase the data rate on newer vehicles that have a CAN bus. It is disabled by default since it will slow down connection time on older (<07) vehicles.
  • The 'Request Only First Reply' option will also increase the data rate on modern vehicles by requesting information from first available PCM. Many values are available in multiple PCMs and when this setting is disabled, the ELM327 adapter will wait until all PCMs have replied with the data. Again, this setting has no improvement on older (<07) vehicles.

RealDash does not connect to my ECU. I know my adapter/connection works with other apps. What can I do?
You can help us troubleshoot the problem. Here are the steps to enable debug logging and to send the log file to us for analysis.
  1. Go to Settings->Application->Debug Settings and enable debug logging feature.
  2. Go back to dashboard, and let the adapter make connection attempts for a minute or so.
  3. Let the adapter make connection attempts for a minute or so.
  4. Go back to Debug Settings, check that your debug log size is at least 5kb. If it is less, go back to step 2.
  5. Use 'Send to developers' button.
The debug log is uploaded to our server and we can investigate the reason of connection problems. You can now disable the debug logging.
Please send us an email when you have uploaded the debug log file. Since log files do not include any personal information, please note date and time of the log to help us find the correct log file.

Heard back from the dev's at RealDash this morning- Is as simple as expected...

Quote:
Sorry for the late reply, we are working on 3 prototype cars that take
all our time

I see from the log that your OBD2 adapter 'K+DCAN Interface' does not
seem to be ELM327 compatible. When RealDash sends reset command 'ATZ',
your adapter replies with 'atz' but not with extra characters '>' and 13
as expected by ELM327 standard.

Please try with another OBD2 adapter. We recommend adapters from OBDLink
(obdlink.com). They are very high quality and reliable pieces.

Best Regards,

hmmm
I have an odblink, IIRC same think as Palmer Performance. Got one for my focus years and years ago.
I'll have to try and dig it out once.

Torque works well for me. Lots of gauge options for the OBDII data and it reads and clears "check engine" codes.

What are you using to connect? K+DCAN cable, or OBDII specific?

Only stumbling block we were having was wanting to use K+DCAN. In my case because it's hardwired to center console- just kind of a PITA to swap connections ya know

Anyone have suggestions for an OTG USB-C adapter for a k+dcan?

FYI it's a good idea to get a quality cable, check out **************.com/cables

I broke out my Carly BT adapter to test- turns out that RealDash has an OBD2 profile already in place for this thing- connected and worked perfect first time. Only problem for me is that I don't want to swap, so since my K+DCAN cable works fine with all my coding software (MHD, xHP & Carly) I will probably toss the Carly BT adapter back in the drawer and give up on this project for now...

Oh, and Matticus91, for the OTG cable- both the one that came with my K+DCan and the small adapter that came with my Galaxy S8 work fine.

That's interesting, at that point I could only suggest contacting their support. It could be the slightest issue between devices that is causing issues.
