That is why batteries should be replaced BEFORE they die. That whole preventative maintenance thing.

What are you talking about? I don't understand. Why would you be overcharging?

Not sure how that's the answer. If I don't live near a dealer and I'm replacing a battery that's not dead as part of "that whole preventative maintenance thing" will bmw give me a way to tell the car that it has a new battery?

overcharged? You mean undercharged, it stops trying to top off old batteries.

I fix this by unhooking the battery and using a ctek charger on it once a month, I'm still on my original 2008 battery

From what I've read, you shouldn't have to disconnect the battery to use the CTEK charger.

I was going to make the same comment... why disconnect the battery from the car?

Just realized in linking this thread to a new thread that i never responded... To be honest i believe the issue was related to my aftermarket Audio install. I was running a Pioneer Head Unit with a JL Audio amp and i believe a parasitic draw was causing this issue. At the end of the day i ended up returning the new battery and recharging the original BMW battery dropping it in the car returning the audio system to OEM and all has been well since... Now i am trying to figure out where i went wrong with the radio/amp install so i can put it all back in and not run into the same issue.

and yes going on almost 119K miles now with no issues *knocks on wood* (besides the ones i caused LOL)

My 2008 135i wouldn't start tonight after my daughter took my wife to the Dr. She said all of the dash lights came on while she was driving there & that the windshield wipers would come on on their own. I had replaced the battery about 3 months ago & I had noticed the ground cable was starting to corrode awhile back so I assumed is was just a bad connection. When I got there I cleaned up the cable & post & still nothing. It had lights & power but it wouldn't even try to start. Again the wipers came on randomly as I was trying to start it. Same with the lights on the dash.

I'm not sure if it's related but one of my halo lights has been out. From what I understand it's the FRM & not a bulb? I have the upgraded light package. I'm thinking a bad alternator but I'm not sure with these cars. I have 112k miles on it.

Check your ground straps. There is one inside the engine bay and others underneath the car I believe. These could loose and or corroded.
