09 135i with JB4 non-idrive - Worth doing software update or no?

I assume the software has never been updated on my car. Looks like most places around me want a couple hundred bucks to do a software update. Some of the shops advise against it, as things could be damaged during the update. Seems like people are pretty split on this.

I just installed the JB4 and was wondering if it was worth spending the money on the latest software update. Are there any performance differences or should I save the money? Also will having the JB4 installed cause any issues with the update?
