I think some blame may be laid on me for ...
I've been doing it for 20+ years in forums. I'm sure some of my protege's have furthered my agenda (no, I can't release all of it).
I've been talked to a few times ... a pause is not dotdotdot, it's dot dot dot.
I
Don't
Care

So just an update...
My windshield cowl gasket came in today...
Installed and the windshield fits better, can't lie about that...
But I still have some separation where the cowl sits against the windshield...
Not as bad as before though...

Don't sound like you're in a coma, use a comma!

Just reviving this post to let anyone running into this problem know - that trim piece is indeed what holds the cowl down against the windshield. The trim piece fits on the bottom lip of the windshield, and the cowl clicks down into it.

My car was missing that trim piece, and needed a windshield. I ordered both, and I had the windshield replaced and the installer didn't put the piece in first. So I'm currently waiting for him to come back with another windshield since the glue along the bottom edge is currently blocking the area for the trim piece to attach.
