Angry **WARNING ** Dont use Griots temp clear bra !!!

Okay guys got my temp bra from griots here >

It really messed up my paint and I now have to hope that today my detailer can get all the marks out of the paint.. not sure if you can see in the pics but left a heavy residue.

I tried clay baring....wax and even a light goof off....so pissed off the cars not even a week old and this bull$hit happens.

isnt the paint to "fresh" for this type of clear overlay??

what makes you think any other brand would not have done the same marks when applied and removed on such fresh paint??

really sorry to see that to your car, you must be really pissed, really hoping your details can get out the damage, is that lacquer damage?

Its designed for it there is no real adhesion like a 3m bra or similar more like a food wrap.

Its states there would be NO marks

Contact Griot's customer service. They are good about standing behind their products.

On another forum someone used product too soon on their repainted hood and it messed up the paint. Griot's stepped up and resolved the issue for the guy. They might pay for your detailing.

Bummer.

I wouldn't use goof off (or similar product), but would try some cleaner/waxes. If that doesn't work, I'd then try some very mild cleaners/polishes.

Also, to MusclezMarinara, auto manufacturers haven't used lacquer finishes for a very long time.

That is awful. Very sorry to hear what happened to your VO.

Every single luxury car detail shop and body shop I have consulted has recommended AGAINST any clear bra application to a new car if the owner has any intention of removing it later. This is from professionals with years of experience working on everything from Bentleys to BMW's.

Just enjoy your cars....they are meant to be driven. It is not worth the stress and heartache, as hard as that is to accept.

Hard to say for sure, but it looks like some of the clearcoat peeled off.

If that's the case, it will require a repaint.

I'm sorry you're going through this and hope that Griot's comes through for you.

This just adds to my list of reasons I will never do a clear bra or any other paint protection.

First of all, the price of a good clear bra is in the same ballpark as a respray of the hood.

Secondly, if you put a clear bra on the car, it is still going to get dinged and scratched while protecting the actual paint, (which in the end looks just as bad as rock chips on paint, possibly worse). Then you go to replace it and you screw your paint up anyway. Makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

Thirdly, just about every clear bra I have ever seen looks like crap after a year.

+1. I'm not sure I get the whole chip-o-phobia. I'm not offroading. My E30 318i started showing signs of blasting and chipping along the leading hood edge...

After 12 years.

i've never had an issue with my clearbra. also, good stuff doesn't yellow or crack for a few years. if done correctly, it certainly doesn't damage paint upon removal and i'd rather not respray a car unless necessary since most folks will consider that a negative, thinking there's some other reason for the respray.

A few years? So I would have to spend money every few years for a new clear bra? Also, once you go clear bra, doesnt the paint fade at different rates pretty much forcing you to keep clear bra on forever, or respray hood?

Seems to me like the exact same thing as my grandmother keeping plastic on the couch...

I do understand the OP's original intention of getting his new baby home unscathed and it totally sucks what happened. Didn't really intend to thread jack and turn into a debate on permanent clear bras. I've even been known to tape up my car on track days, so I feel where you're coming from.

I bet he can fix it, I also bet that Griots will at least refund purchase price and I wouldn't be surprised if they paid for your detailing. From what I have heard, they have a good reputation.

Yes I know its temporary, thats why I planned on using it for my ED. I have a roll sitting here next to my desk and now Im considering returning it.

My question was to determine how long the paint had cured before application.

Thanks, Musclez, for posting your experience. We owe you for all the future damage that has been avoided. Hope your baby gets repaired promptly.

Just curious, was the car surface warm during the bra application? Recently waxed?

I would recommend using steam to see if you can remove it.

I had the same problem during my ED but not has bad as yours.
I'll take a closer look after re-delivery
