Hey how loud was your car with the headers and muffler delete? I'm thinking about doing the same thing and keeping the stock res. Is driving with the windows up still really loud or does it have any drone?

Yeah it's pretty loud, not unbearable but it's loud.

There is drone, especially on the highway. Not a ton, but it's there.

I'm looking to add a Vibrant resonator to bring the volume down maybe 20%, and kill the drone.

Also progress on the car: I got the OEM alarm retrofit! Since I'm a 2008, all I had to do was order the siren, hood switch and ultrasonic motion sensor and plug em in. Small amounts of coding needed but Carly and NSCexpert fixed that.

Resonators don’t control volume, they control resonate frequencies (rasp) though that particular resonator does have SOME Muffling capabilities.
You need proper muffler to fix the volume and drone issues.

I suggest you look at YouTube for before and after vibrant ultra quiet resonators.
I have one (and a Borla xS muffler) for my exhaust project, and I know it will still be loud.

You should go N54 intake manifold! I'm making 248whp and 207wtq with BPC tune, N54 intake manifold and TB, active headers, resonators deleted, and 135 muffler.

Soon to have S65 injectors and E85 conversion

After driving for a few weeks I'm pretty happy with where the car is, except for drone on the highway (esp. with the short gears, 80mph I'm pulling just under 3500rpm), would a small resonator help that? I would like to keep the aggressive volume and sound on the street, but I'm willing to cut it back if it means highway cruising is almost OEM (or at least until the wind noise and radio cover the exhaust again lol)

A muffler will help with drone. That resonator will help a little bit too, as it functions as a pseudo muffler.

Not a whole lot going on with this lately - everything's too damn expensive I already got the easy stuff.

Immediate future goals are:

• Custom BimmerLabs tune to accommodate the headers, max/optimize VANOS, VVT, raised redline, cold start delete, etc.

• Small muffler to the exhaust. Maybe muffled resonator. Not really sure yet and I haven't done a whole lot of research. Taskmaster halp you think a sport muffler would be better for my goals? Eliminate highway drone (there isn't much but it's there) but still have BWWAHAHHHHHHHH on demand

• MILVs. I wanna buy these before they fall into the land of never. I trust CobraMarty will be around for a bit, producing these but you never know.

• Coilovers and suspension refresh. New endlinks, tie rod ends, maybe M3 control arms if I can get a good price. I just wanna do it all at once - not gonna pay for multiple alignments.

Do a muffler (not a delete, not a resonator) and do the MILVS - it really REALLY changes the car.

You beat me to all the visual mods though I love how your car looks.

If you already have a good set of tires I'd opt for the coils, obv they'll make a massive difference.

I trust your expertise. Any recommendations? I think I remember you running the Borla muffler - or were about to. How do you like it?

And yes 100% MILVs are happening.

from all my readings just don't go with the PE, without headers it sounds fantastic but with headers everyone says its extremly loud and super drony

Not yet but I'm leaning towards a high flow muffler, maybe bottle style. Something small to get rid of the drone at highway speeds but I can still blast thru underpasses

Big updates for the car! I'm up in WI visiting family so progress is halted.

We'll start with the shit.

SO. When I was replacing my AC pulley, I bumped the cooling fans into the upper radiator hose and broke the nipple for the reservoir/overflow hose. Bought a Gates replacement and had it on in a few minutes. Started leaking where the rubber hose was crimped onto the plastic (specifically at the oil filter housing). Got that warrantied. Then I noticed I was still losing coolant, much less than before but there was still some liquid on the belly pan. Did some investigating and turns out the upper hose neck on the radiator had a pinhole crack/leak. Guess it was from when I yanked the hoses off. Tried using the O'Reilly brand one, it did not match in the slightest. Then I tried the Autozone one, which is for automatic cars and has the extra port on it. There was some official BMW part number to replace the drain plug on one side, I suppose to cap off the line internally. Really didn't feel like dicking with it at that point, I returned it and bought a Mahle-Bear OEM one off ECS which is probably sitting at my house now. Also got a new lower rad hose and a thermostat->head hose.

But now I got the Bilstein B12 Pro kit installed!!!! Got new top hats and rear shock mounts to go with it - picked up the upgraded upper rear shock mount from Monroe (907984) as well. Old mounts were in decent shape - nice to see normal wear and tear and nothing surprising. Install went quite well - there were a few 'BMW tricks' I had to learn. Used a real stubby flathead to spread the spindle for the front - literally the perfect side. The tip fit in (wide-ways in) but then I just had to use a mallet to push it in. Then for the rear it was cumbersome squeezing the shock then moving it into place before it expands.

Also definitely 110% absolutely didn't forget the washers for the tophats (one of 2 that spreads the load across the bearing). I thought it was just the bearing seal that broke off or something, then I looked closer at RealOEM and saw it did indeed need to go in. Also forgot one of the dust boots for the rear upper shock mount. Basically had to redo the front and 1 rear but the 2nd time around took like 45 minutes (for 3/4 corners) vs a few hours. ALSO one of the front control arm bolts stripped. Got that sitting in the mail too.

Cannot wait to drive it.

I think tirerack is actually the most consistent seller for the US version of this kit.

Correct! They told me they still had a set or two up in DE when I got them.

Got the car all back together. Hopefully gonna meet up with some friends for a photoshoot soon.
