First scratch, and it's ugly

I just noticed yesterday that someone or something put a very deep scratch on my car with some other minor scratches around it. It appears to go down to the metal, or at least the primer. Looks like I'll have to get it sanded down and resprayed. That should be fun.

Sorry for the poor camera phone pics. Yes, the car is dirty; it recently rained.

That looks like a gouge more than a scratch. Could have been a shopping cart or a bicycle running into you. More than likely the panle will have to be re-sprayed. I would check with your insaurance company to see if over your deductible is covered.

Most of the skratch on the car is it's the result of stupid kids when they oppening the door or ... Like me ,2 days after received mine.3 kids in a bicycle
look my car in a parking and one of them fall in my car.It result in a small bump in my rear bumper. Whe can't do nothing.Only shut our mouth and pay

It will most likely cost less than my $1000 deductible. I'd rather pay out of pocket anyway for something like this. It annoys me that insurance companies will raise your rates when you make a claim for something that is not your fault.

That's rough, only 2 days after picking it up.

It might not make your rates go up to make that claim- some companies (at least mine) do not count comprehensive claims (e.g. theft, vandalism) against your premium as long as you make a police report.

Don't feel too bad, it happens. I had an RC Truck jump off the shelf in the garage onto my hood when the car was only 10 days old.

If you didn't get the metallic paint you might be able to have it spot fixed, although that wasn't the option I took.. I also had dents ;(

Just use BMW touch up paint for now until you have more scratch and ding. If you respray it you going to have different shade in the paint if the body shop didn't do a good job. No reason to respray the whole panel since it need to blend the paint to the door and back... it would at least cost $1400 to fix.

Good to know. I'll check on that.

It wouldn't annoy me as much if it were my fault. It annoys me that other people don't take accountability for their actions.

I'm not sure it would cost quite that much. My WRX was recently hit by a shopping cart denting the right rear quarter panel and also cracking and chipping the paint. The body shop did an excellent repair, and it cost $560. This was with metallic paint as well. We'll see what the estimates are.

Use some BMW Touch Up paint. Wet sand that spot with 2000 grit paper. And get a detailer with a heavy cut pad to polish it. You probably won't notice it after that. Hope that helps I've down it before!

That way is fine for a small scratch, but this is way too big for a color sand. While it may look better, it will be quite noticeable. Best way to go is to reshoot the panel and blend it in.

I feel your pain. I left mine at the airport once when I went on a business trip. I came back to this. I had to repaint the whole bumper and the lower cover. That surprised me. I didnt know that the plastic piece in the rear bumper was painted. Now it looks slightly different ( I can tell)

Wow, how did it happen? Someone drop something on top? How much it cost for you to repaint it?

Does the panel looks the same?
