When I was selling my Z4M I went to Carmax just to see what they would offer on a car like that. They offered me basically nothing saying it was "too unique." I sold it a week later for $9500 more than they offered. I wonder what this owner was paid.

Interesting: carguru went from fourteen 1Ms for sale to five in the past couple of weeks.
Maybe they are just cleaning up old listings? |

I just bought a black 1M with 14k miles for $56k. One owner, and I bought it from the guy personally and avoided sales tax here in AZ (saved me quite a bit on that!). Car also has a pre-paid service plan. Perfect condition so I feel I got a good deal on it. It does have the PP and HK, which are the only two options I wanted.
I think the Carmax car will sell at the current price. Some people just prefer to buy from dealers, especially Carmax for the warranty.

I can see where a 1-owner car with only 14K miles and presumably also the service records would sell for a premium to the "market" overall. A lot of this really is just plain luck and circumstance, within a range of prices. The 1M is a rare car, and the biggest deterrent to sales is geographical, where there might be several buyers for a specific car for sale, but they might be 1000 or 2500 miles away from each other, seller and buyers. If the same car happened to be in your town or a couple of hundred miles away, a potential buyer might pay more than a car is "worth" just because it is in the area and getting the car inspected would not present too much of a hassle. Carmax has a built in advantage in that they do give you the option to return the car within a week for any reason, with a full refund, they will transfer cars among locations for an acceptable cost, and they offer extended warranties that are semi-reasonable in price. |

Totally agree - I think this 1M at Carmax sell for, as you stated, they'll just wait it out, and this car is also in the Los Angeles area....
I follow 1M's and Z4M's closely and it's amazing how many people list their cars in spring and right before winter. I bought my Z4M in Portland,OR in October of last year - and at that time several had just popped onto the market, and then it was dead for a while.

...and I'm also watching this car. I called about the car a few months ago and the guy told me we were good to go, and he was ready to sell. I sold my Z4M the next day, and called this guy back to arrange the pickup. Then he tells me his wife is letting him keep the car (which begs the question, why not figure this out before you list the car). So a week later a guy in a local car club tells me he called on that same car and the guy told him he already had an offer on it. Several months later, the car is still listed....

Looking at cargurus & autotrader the price isn't all that high considering to low number for sale. The mileage is a bit higher than some would want for the premium price but not overly high for a used car of that age. I expect low mileage examples to go up in price over the next few years b/c they are becoming rare.

Nice to see. My 1M is the only car I've ever owned that's worth more than I paid for it 18 months earlier.
