135 w FBO tire set up
I'm sure this has been discussed previously but I wasn’t able to dig up a discussion that directly related to my question. I bought a 2010 135 convertible w/ auto trans this fall that had a blown motor. Wrapping up the motor build now so while I’m waiting for the snow to melt, I want to get my wheel set up finalized. Motor build is full bolt on’s (inlets, outlets, intercooler, charge pipe, catless DPs, custom exhaust, polished head and a MHD stage 2+ tune), suspension is currently stock and that’s where I’ll start since it has new shocks and struts all around from the previous owner. Currently has the stock 17” spider spoke 142 wheels which I’ll be changing to 18s but I’m not sure if I want to go with a square or staggered set up. There are no tracks in the area, we used to have an organized auto x group that would hold races in the summer but they are no longer being held so 90% of my driving will be in town and highway driving with the remaining driving being in twisting mountain roads when I go out west to my cabin. I’m leaning towards a squared 18x8.5” 235/40-18 set up so I can do full 4 tire rotations, but my only concern is with my motor build that should put me over 400hp if I’ll run into traction issues out back. Car will only be driven in the summer, and it will pretty much be a weekend warrior unless I drive it to work during the week which is a pretty short commute of in town driving. Are the 235/40-18s in the back going to be enough to keep the car from getting too squirrelly? My previous car was a 335 FBO but it was an x drive, this will be my first modified rwd car for me.

When doing your suspension refresh, I'd grab a pair of front fixed camber plates (Dinan or Turner), in order to fit a 245 square if you can.
If you decide to go staggered, Apex has a 18x95 et58 that can fit a 265 out back. |
