For a 7" wide wheel like the style 256, I would stick to 225 tires. You can go wider than that but probably would not be recommended. Starting with a 235 size tire, it is usually recommended to have at least an 8" wide wheel minimum (or maybe a 7.5" wheel). Also trying to find an available tire in a 235 or 245 even, with around the same calculated overall diameter will likely be cost prohibitive or just not available on the market. 225/45/17 size tires are such a common size that they will be the better deal by far.

ZeroR thanks! I’m on square 225/45/17s right now but wanted to know if any wider was possible with the stock wheels. They feel very good compared to the 205s.
I bought the car used not long ago and it had 205s on with little to no life remaining so I put on some used tires to make the car actually driveable. I am planning on buying a set of new tires in the near future and was wondering if I could go any wider. What about spacers? I want to make the wheels as flush as possible with the least amount of rubbing possible |
