BMWhat/Carly adapters?
I'm looking at getting the BMWhat/Carly app, and was looking at their site.. They have a Gen 2 BT adapter out.. and I tried to order it, but the website is giving me some funky error about choosing a state (Nowhere to choose one!)
First off.. what are you thoughts on BMWhat / Carly and what other adapters have you used that work well?

Very happy with it. Easy way to do simple coding. Check their site for coding options. Also check Amazon for purchasing it. I bought mine from there.

Amazon is out of the adapter, and no idea when more will come
eBay has them for almost TWICE the price. Are there any other currently available options? |

Yeah a $10 generic elm adapter from amazon works fine for me.
As for the app itself, it's the easiest way to code basic stuff. I am now using it to log parameters like oil temps. However, it does need work. The translations are poor, not much is explained if at all, and it's not very intuitive. Seems like all resources are used to expand to more models rather than work on the apps functionality. Make sure you turn off all but the Bluetooth. Mine is flaky if I leave wifi on. Once it is only Bluetooth it is solid. I have the Android Carly BT adapter.

Got mine from Amazon as well. They are definitely hit & miss on the inventory, I had to check ever day for a while as well.

Disconnect from your car's BT as well, if you have it. I had some major speed issues until I started turning that one off.

Not bad. I expected a little more from the app considering the price. Like someone else said it's good for simple coding.
If you want to reset service you need to spend an extra X amount of dollars for the add-on If you want to code your battery you need to spend an extra X amount of dollars There are probably more pay for add-ons I don't know about. Cool little things here and there you can change nothing revolutionary. |

Seems like they're nickel and diming people. And they doubled the price of the Gen2 dongle to $60.

Yeah, you're better off going with the Gen2. I ordered the Gen1 cause it was cheaper and assumed Gen2 was only for newer cars. You can only do I-Drive stuff with Gen2.. (Get rid of nag screen) Unless I'm wrong and I'm using it incorrectly... |

Does anyone know if this will work with Carly?
http://www.amazon.com/VIMVIP-VAG-COM...ilpage_o00_s00 I know it says VW...and I can source a OTG cable easily.. As much as I want the convenience of wireless/BT, Id prefer a solid connection.. Thanks! |

I use this BT adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/Original-BMW-B.../dp/B00DQTLE2A Unfortunately it's out of stock. Paid about $30 for it. Just did battery coding with it with the Android app, seems to have worked fine.

Yeah, sucks, but it's still way cheaper than taking it in.
I've read in the ~$500 range for battery service, but the local dealer only charged me about $245 net for a new 808 battery after tax and core return. I'm about $80-90 deep in Carly stuff with the app, adapter, and coding add-ons so that's already easily paid itself off twice over just on my battery replacement, so I'll try not to complain too much. That whole job only took me about 15 minutes including coding and resetting my clock. They must give the car the happy ending for the $200+ in labor. Haha.
