from stock 18 to 19", what size tire to use

stock 18" rear uses 245-35-18, i was wondering what tires size should be used for 19". it should be 285-25-19 or 295-25-19, but no one sells those tires size, and 275-30-19 has like 5% difference is speedometer. anyone have an answer for me?

I dont think you can fit that much rubber on the rear. I would say 265-30-19 max imho.

IMO, 265x30-19 in the rear will be the max without massaging the fenders. For the front 235x35-19 should work, but I'd hope and pray 245x35-19 could be made to fit without rubbage. And Toronto better have great road maintenance.

Doesn't going to a 19" require such thin rubber that the ride quality would be adversely affected? And what about performance? Aren't 18's truly the better maximum size for the 1er?

Yes, worse, and IMO, yes. I'm staying at 18" but was trying to help the member with some information.

Thanks!! I'm soooooooo tempted to change the wheels/tires... some of them look incredible. I'm thinking that after a while most of the tire and wheel suppliers will (hopefully) know more about what works best for the 1er.

Waiting would likely give you more workable options alright. Exactly correct offsets will be key in maximizing wheel/tire size combos. It will be a trail and error process and it's always cheaper to let others make the errors.

damn j66...285s? I see that rubbing...badly...I think a 255/30/19 might work for the rear and that is a fairly common size.

on a side note...I have 235/30/20 on my a6 with eibach springs and it still has a really comfortable ride...

You can always roll your fenders, common practice.

from the performance side 18 are better, 19's also required some pretty skimpy rubber that doesnt leave much cushion

my .02, find out the widest rubber that fits up front and put it all the way around, combat understeer.

That would help with rotating the wheels/tires front-to-rear. A thicker RSB will probably go a long ways towards eliminating most of that understeer as well. Nate

Beyern 5 20x10 with Pirelli Pzero Nero 285/25ZR-20 rear; 20x8 1/2 with 245/30ZR-20 front from my 335I. I guess I need to sell them since I don't have much of a chance of putting them on my 1er?

If you change your wheel size don't change your tire size, you'll just mess with your torque and horsepower numbers. I think I am going to go with 18's on the front and 19's on the rear with g-force tires. Yaaaaaaaya :headbang:

Schnitzer uses 225/35-19 on all their 19" applicatins (et 43).
