Exclamation X1 Officially Official Per BMW

Linkie.

We would like to confirm the announcement of the BMW X1. This model is going to complement the successful X family, together with the BMW Concept X6 presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Very interesting. An X1 with the biturbo engine could be very cool indeed. I wonder if that also means that future 1ers will have AWD available as an option?

Looks like 1Addicts can expect even more activity in the future. Maybe Howard wants to register X1Addicts.com, too!

Think of it as a BMW version of a Suzuki Grand Viagra - oh, my mistake, Grand Vitara. ; -)

Hmmmm....what I would really like to see is an X7 to round out the X line, not an X1. So we now have Medium, Small, and really small SAV's. Where is the super sized version?

I dunno about this, but I am sure the people at BMW know more about marketing their cars and products then I do. That being said I'm sure it will end up doing well like most things BMW does.

What for? The X3 is not really small, get into one and you'll see. It still has more interior room than the old X5, bigger than my friend's previous-gen RAV or my other friend's CRV...

The action these days is in the smaller SUVs, not the bigger ones. Would you really like to see a BMW version of the Escalade, rather than a sporty and useful tall wagon?

BMW X1 to be sold in Europe only?

09/28/07, 08:40am, EDT

BMW has announced the recently confirmed BMW X1 will be built in one of its European plants. Meanwhile, BMW will outsource the production of the Mini SUV to a third party. The decision to produce the X1 in Europe was made because the automaker believes that Europe will be the vehicle's primary market.

This announcement could indicate the U.S. will not get the X1 as an unfavorable exchange rate would likely price it out of the segment. BMW recently announced that it will shift the majority of its SUV production to the United States — BMW's largest SUV market — so keeping the X1's production in Europe is a bit surprising.
According to Automotive News, Reithofer failed to name which company would be producing the Mini SUV for BMW, although Magna Steyr is a leading candidate as it produced the last-generation X3 for the automaker."

Check out the following:

I would be all about this, especially as a 5-door 135.

Apparently the X1 will be built in Germany by BMW and the new MINI SUV will be outsourced like the current X3. Some believe the X1 will not make it to the US Market.

It actually could be a lot worse but BMW's design direction is going smoother, rather than more sharp as the CS Concept showed.

Is there any word on what engines they're putting into this beast?

If it's Euro-only, I predict diesels and no N54.
