Hey, why not do one better and change it at 500 miles, then again at 1200 miles to make sure we get what the 500 mile change didn't catch.

C'mon off the high horse, dude - there's nothing wrong with doing regular oil changes at a frequency higher than BMW recommends. If you want to talk science, do you have any hard numbers with regard to the longevity of BMW engines prior to the recommended 15k+ oil changes versus now? If so, please provide the source! A link to an article in a peer-reviewed journal will be preferred.

One reason they recommend the 1 year/15K mile Free oil change, is because they pay for it. Now if there was no 4 year/50000 mile plan, they would say the more often you get it changed, the better! Got mine done at 1200 miles, and will get one every 6000 miles. I do not mind paying for a small does of peace of mind.
