I haven't had any reason to code anything yet but I'm pretty sure it would work for that. BMWhat will not allow my Bluetooth OBDII adapter to show any live parameters but it does work with the cable I bought. I really wanted to see the actual speed of my water pump and now I can with the cable. I might try some simple coding tomorrow if I have time.

Let us know how it works. I just don't want to get burned by a second bad cable...

It works! I just added digital speed readout on dash.

First time coding. It reset my clock and trip meter, and possibly more. It did warn me this could happen.

Can anyone confirm this works with E82 N55 engine? It only lists the N54, not sure if that makes a difference for coding purposes.

Well I broke down and purchased this app. It's amazing! You can code WAY more than I thought you'd be able to. This is in no way limited just because it's an app.

A few things I did myself:
  • Changed the 3 blink to 5
  • Extended the welcome home feature to 90 seconds.
  • Windows and side mirrors fold after 0.5 seconds.
  • Hitting the trunk button activates follow me home lights.
  • Hazards are double blink.

You can code out bulb out errors, make the cluster light up all the time, change the voltage to halos and other lights, make the wipers perform a complete cycle, the list is very very long. I love this app!

There is no N51 for my car so I just chose the 125i option and it worked fine.

Yeah there are so many options.

In case anyone who hasn't tried the app is wondering what you can do, here's pretty much the entire list.

EDIT: Select your model at the top!

I downloaded BMWhat and installed it. Connected it to my bluetooth ODB2 adapter without an issue but wasn't able to do anything with it. Said my ECU was incompatible.

This is the BT adapter that I have. Running it with Samsung Galaxy note 3

I've got their adapter on the way. I currently have the same one as you, and it works SOMETIMES, but not often. I'll let you know if theirs works much better (I expect it to) as soon as I get it.

Did you finally get their cable or BT adapater? How well does it work?

Im especially interested in DIAG code reading, and interpretation, but coding is a nice-to-have but not as critical to me ...

About to pull the trigger on this today for my wifes 2009 328i xdrive sedan (E90) and my 2011 135i (E82). Sounds like the cable and micro-USB adapter sold by the vendor is the safest most reliable way to go ...
Edit: order the authentic OBD-II cable and micro USB adapter for my Android Samsung S3 phone.

The BMWHAT brand OBD2 BT adapter works perfectly for me. My no name BT reader that works fine with other stuff is unreliable at best.

I also have the BMWhat brand BT adapter and it works great.

Wish I could flash my DME with it...
