Low Oil Pressure Alert and Oil Control Valve code 3408

I'm hoping there's an experience BMW mechanic that can help me out.

I have a 135i with the N55 and a couple days ago got the "Oil pressure low, stop driving immediately" alert. I connected with Bimmerlink and found three relevant codes.

33FE Engine oil pressure control, plausibility, static: pressure too low
3408 Engine oil pressure control valve: clamped in fully energized position (minimum oil pressure) and
3406 Engine oil pump: pressure too low.

I've removed the oil pressure control valve (aka hydraulic valve) and I hear it click when I put 12 volts across the connector pins. There doesn't appear to be any contamination that would hinder oil flow. There was some oil on the connector, enough that might make for a bad connection.

Do these valves fail in some way that the solenoid works but the valve is somehow blocked. How likely is it that cleaning the valve and connector and reinstalling it will solve the problem?

Thanks

When was the last time you changed the oil and filter? I had a similar issue with my daughters MINI and fixed it by doing an oil change myself. Sometimes people cheap out on cheap oil filters and cause oil pressure issues. If you end up doing an oil change, get OEM oil filter or MANN brand. Nothing else.

Just to put a point on the problem, I replaced a cheap amazon sensor with a BMW sensor and the problem was solved.

Is this sensor the one on top of the oil filter housing?
