Replacement Motor

Hi everyone.

I parked my car (N55 M/T w/ PS2) end of last summer with the idea of prepping it to be a track car. I planned on rebuilding the motor, but after being quoted around 13k for a rebuild with forged components and about 8-9k without forged components- I decided it might be worth looking into other options. The current engine still runs but it has about 187k miles on it and I don't feel comfortable pushing it any longer.

I thought about just throwing a used engine in it, or maybe an M2 N55 and modifying the oil pan to fit the steering rack. The dry sump and forged internals of the M2 engine sounds really nice.

Anyone have any experience with this, or know of any reputable used engine dealers?

Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same boat wanting to build a track set up with a relatively high milage 135 I picked up (126k on the clock). I was on the fence about full rebuild or replacing parts OFHG, Oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets as all were leaking when purchased. I went with the later and plan on running it until it blows or want to throw more power at it beyond OTS stage 2+ on MHD. Not sure where you got your quote from, but I would recommend checking with M Doctor in Orlando. I've heard nothing but good things from them. They attend many events here in the South East with their own cars and are very reputable. That's where I'll be sending motor/car to for rebuild. Their pricing is much better than what you were quoted as well. What are your poer goals for the rebuild?

I'd like to be around 400-450whp for track use, but have the option to hit 600. I don't think I'll get there with the ps2 though. I just want something robust for the most part.

That’s pretty much where im heading as well. I have 126k on the clock and seems to be running strong for now. Now that I fixed all the leaks, so just buying some time. I would hit up junior at m doctor though. I was at the shop a few weeks ago discussing this exact build and for the work, machining, pricing, customer service, I don’t think you’d be disappointed. I guess if mine blows before you get yours rebuilt I’ll give you first hand knowledge. I’m just kind of using as a daily right now but have track plans in near future.
