Double Helical Ball Bearing Rear End
The press release mentioned a 'double-helical' ball bearing rear end for the 1er. Even though it sounds like something needed on a bionic dog - here's a bit of info on what a double helical gear setup is.
Some additional info. And there's this gem (although I haven't vetted it yet for accuracy or completeness - like I'd know if it was ; -). |

The double helical makes sense (because of the torque thrust resistance of the 'herringbone' pattern gear surfaces). I'm not sure where the ball bearing piece of fits.
